A sort of philosophy that attempts to present/describe the architecture--as it were--of consciousness and things (i.e., objects and such) as they are, independent of any previous philosophical underpinning.
It is, actually, very difficult to explain. Moreover, the preeminent phenomenologists--Heidegger and Husserl--require patience and time to read well.
Seriously. I had been studying phenomenology for three months before I began to be able to talk about what it was about.
That is part of its "point," though--to express things in language in such an abstract fashion that the listener/reader comes to question the role of language in the construction of awareness and the physical world, and to see it (language) as a thing in and of itself.
You'll probably get better answers if you post this in a philosophy section, by the way.

Phenomenology has three meanings in philosophical history, one derived from G.W.F. Hegel in 1807, one derived from Edmund Husserl in 1920, and one derived from Martin Heidegger in 1927:

It was decided in the 1800s that philisophy begins with studies of phenomena, and that that is the essence of what we experience. the spirituality and philsophy of it, that phenomena build us to who we are, and that it's the reason everything comes together. Studying phenomena may seem like a crazy thing to most people, but if you think, it's a deeper way of thinking and studying life. There are so many theories out there.

It is my understanding that it is as much a Method as it is a Philosopy. Although most consider it to have begun around the 1900's with Edmund Husserl giving an actual name to it, its roots go back much farther. In the Early 1800s GWF. Hegel developed his version of the philosopy. And later in this past
century, about ten to fifteen years after Husserl, a fellow by the name of Martin Heidegger came along. Dig around, Heidegger was famous indeed but as children may be viewing this I do not dare post anything further upon the matter.
It is the study of phenomea, anything that the Student, or the one who is interested in knowing more about pursues. In its Orthodox Presentation the Method of obtaining information and formulating an opinion is based upon a defined sense of what reality is. Reality, of course, being made up of objects,
things, people, and places. Within this reality the human consciouness attempts to perceive what has occurred, what is about to occur, as well and the why and the how of it.
Based upon your perceptions of an "occurrence" you are then able to describe it. First, to yourself. Secondly, to others.
Now, all of this presupposes that you are able to not only make these observations but that you are capable of and WILL make these observations from an objective, unbiased view, allowing no other to influence your thoughts and perceptions. This includes your self. And that is where it becomes extremely difficult to do. There are things that we all WANT to believe or WISH to be possible.
It is being able to let go of your own desires, and to truly see and truly feel what is taking place or what has occurred within the space of observation. Not such an easy thing to be able to do but with patience, concentration, and devotion to truth and the rightness of things one can master the ability.
When one has mastered this, they are able to see themselves for who they truly are. They can actually go deep within themselves and learn who they truly are. Their senses of perception and awareness become heightened to the point of seemingly miraculous when it is no miracle at all. They have only
learned how to hone their skill to the point that it is no longer a conscious act of observing and perceivingwhat is taking place around them
Most people think of phenomena as the supernatural. That isn't too far off from the truth of it. Actually, we are all phenomena when you think about it. There are levels within our consciousness that make us to be the unique individuals we are, in almost the same way that each of us possesses our own unique genetic code. There is something that makes us different. Therefore, the abilities, the practice of it, and the results cannot be the same for everyone.
Which is why one's observations on phenomea are almost impossible for another to understand. You quite literally are deconstructing the presupposed order and structure of people, animals, nature, objects, thoughts and ideas.....basically, anything and everything. Then, by observation and perception you then re-construct them after having taken them apart. You know them intricately for having done so, yet it is difficult to explain this to another person. You simply have to do it for yourself and that is easier said than done because to be quite honest the majority of people do not have the patience or the perseverancerequired to perform such a task.
You can study phenomenology all that you want. It definitely makes for a fascinating read but often you will lose yourself within the passages which tend toward the obscure and that which is unable to clearly define. It is simply through practice and the trial and error of it that you learn. And once you have, let
me be very clear on this, you are unable to go back...ever. Unless perhaps you develop acute, life-long amnesia and even then I am not so sure. Some have been driven mad by it. The reason you cannot "go back" is because by learning the process and by successfully practicing it is almost as if you have been
completely rewired. You now think and feel, you observe and perceive in a completely differet way. You are now doing it automatically as when you began, you did so deliberately.
