The people that I have known in the past that had dyslexia had pretty good memorys. It is possible that it is a different affliction all together. About the only way that I can think that dyslexia would affect memory is just in the acqusition of facts from reading materials and converting that to memory would be a slower process than non-dyslexics.

my daughter has dyslexia and also ADD(attention deficiency disorder) i know these two thing are connected. she always seems in a daydream because she can`t keep her attention on 1 thing. try and get a specialist to see her and ask about ADD.
it is very hard for her and for the rest of the family. she is not stupid but is very naive and gullible. she is nearly 9 but acts a lot younger. her reading and writing is not very good and she struggles with telling the time and gets left and right mixed up etc. it takes a lot of patience but i love her to bits and wouldn`t change her for the world. she is very affectionate and caring.

it sounds like your wee boy might have ADD. as memory difficulties are a definate symptom. get him checked at the hospital. good luck.xx

No, I don't believe it does, it just affects the process the brain goes through to get the eye and hand coordination for reading and writing. I think that's right. Susan Hampshire the actress id Dyslexic - she had to learn all her lines from a recording or someone reading them to her. So clearly it didn't affect her memory.

Yes, it does. I have dyslexia. I forgot alot of things sometimes, but i'm extremely too intelligent for my own good. There are programs out ther that will help him with his memory. The drs worked with me when I was very young. It won't go away but people with disablites, we just have to work a little harder. There's nothing wrong with your son no worries.

yes it does, my son is dyslexic and he is for ever forgetting things, i read about it somewhere as well. It said that a dyslexics way of arranging things will usually be different to other peoples views of what looks right

I have often found that people with dylexia develop their memory to make up for the difficulty they have in reading. Instead of writing things down they remember them, using little tricks they often invent themselves.
Id say take you son to a doctor and specifically ask about the memory issue. Good luck.

I think dyslexia has only got to do with not being able to read correctly, you should take him to the doctor if you are concerned

I have good short term memory but BAD long term memory

I don't remember

ok, seriously. Dyslexia has to do with switching things around like letters and numbers. Memory loss, well, I can think of Alzheimer's disease, or just being a male. :) My husband 'forgets' things a lot, like "Oh, yeah, I FORGOT" when I've told him something a few times.

Yep, so is colour blindness (my boyfriend has all three)people suffering from it mostly forget names, but are very intelligent otherwise. Did you know that they are included as 'disabled' sounds pretty nasty but it means that if you go to university you can get a free laptop (to keep if it's more than three years) and other benefits.
