It means to hold up some hair at the crown like you mentioned, and use a comb to pull down hair, almost like ratting it. It makes the hair look full, kinda fluffy.

it means : you grab a med size of hair from the crown and then you use a thin like comb and you put that comb in between your hair and start making up and down movements ,,,,you do that several time until your hair gets puffy and you style...hope i helped,,,that's called teasing your hair

You must be a youngin'!! LOL!! Hold it up, take a rat-tail comb and slide it back through the hair toward your scalp to create a huge tangled up mess!! My mom was big into the bouffant hair when I was a kid. Now we have products to give us "big" hair!!

it means to make it very "pooffy" (well theres no other way i can describe it) you do it by backcombing it and yes it does get crazy but you have to kinda smooth it out after with a brush...
