How to find a home outside of the U.S.?

I'm doing a project in one of my classes, and one of the requirements is we find a home based on our careers and salaries. I'm having the worst time with this, because I'm not technical. I'm searching for a home in Italy. I would appreciate it if it were a home in an area that needs English teachers, but at this point, I'll take almost anything. Please help me. -R. Mayer-

Tecnocasa is the biggest real estate agency in Italy. You can scan the website for yourself. "Compro" means "buy" and "Affito" means "rent". Tecnocasa definitely sells more than it rents, and they charge HUGE surcharges for rentals (up front you have to pay a one-month's rent deposit and the equivalent of one or two months' rent for their "finders fee"). If you click the "Compro" link you'll find these options:

Tipo di immobile: (Type of home: most Italians don't live in detached homes. You'll get the best results if you scroll down and choose one of the 2 locali through 6 locali- this just means they renovated multiple apartments and are now selling all of them)
Regione: (like State)
Provincia: (like Nearest Big City)
Tipologia di zona (just choose Comune)
Comune: (city or town)
Prezzo (price)

I suggest sorting by zone or price. Important words when browsing the listings would be

ingresso - entrance
bagno - bathroom
camera - bedroom
salon - living room
cucina - kitchen
monolocale - studio apartment

I used to work as an ESL teacher in Torino. I will find you a home in the area I used to live. See the second link for an apartment literally on the street beside my old apartment. Unfortuantely as as English teacher you won't be able to afford much. Your average salary will be about EUR 12,000 annually and it's hard to get a mortgage when you make that much money. The apartment I've linked to shows the kind of place you could get. You enter in the kitchen, then there's a bathroom, then there's a bedroom. That's it. If you're willing to live in a less safe part of town, or far from the city center (meaning you'll need a car) you could get a slightly bigger place.
