why do people come up to you and try to to flirt and go out with you even do they know your in a relationship

Depending on your age really, if your just in middle school or soemthing like that people would tend to look at it and say "Hey, it's just lust, I could take a shot at it."
In the "real world" though, you probably wouldn't see this as much.

Hope. They hope you'll drop the other person for them, even if it is only for one night. Some poeple don't have the same high standards of faithfulness that others do.
Or they may be hoping you're about to break up any day and they want to be the next person, offering their shoulder for you to cry on all the way into a life with them or just their bed for that night.
For others it is some kind of test. They seem to feel comfortable in the knowledge that you won't actually be able to respond the way a single person would.
They may see you as a sounding board. If you are in a normal person in a working relationship they want to see what it feels like.
Come to think of it, I feel more comfortable talking to a woman knowing she is in a relationship and that we don't have to edge around certain themes because it is clear there is nothing going to happen. I confess I have even slipped in the a few compliments in case they aren't getting their full ration.
But as to downright flirting, no. That is a no no and if guys wouldn't flirt with other people's women, I'd still have the girlfriend I lived with for three years. And if we had communicated more clearly, we wouldn't have grown complacent and nobody would have gotten in between us.

The current relationship might not be all that. Lots of people hang out/date the wrong person for the wrong reason for too long of time.

Because alot of times they think since your in a relationship that you must be something special and that is something that they are willing to work for
