Add in any housing allowance, or if there is a parsonage (rectory, manse, etc.), include the standard rent that they would have to pay in your region.

If you don't know, you can find out by calling your church. It should be public knowledge, included in the budget of the church.

Does this amount sound like it is low, medium, or high to you?

To correct an misconception: Ministers are required to pay all Federal and state income taxes and twice the normal amount of Social Security & Medicare taxes. The church's income is tax-exempt, but the ministers' income is subject to the same treatment as yours and mine.

(I know this because my dad's a minister.)

Very interesting question.Be a pastor now is considered as a profession.salary depend of the budget of the church's congregation (member's church),who gave their monthly tithes (10 % of their incomes) and offerings. If the church has thousands of members, the Pastor's salary will be more than 8 or 10 thousands dollars monthly, plus his own house, money in the bank, car, etc. If the church is a poor church (few members),the pastor will have a poor monthly salary. The real thing in 2006 is that: priests and pastors have always a very rich life's style.Good question.

My pastor passed away in 2004, he was 80 yrs. old, I am not sure if he got pay from the church or not, I do know that he was on Social Security after he turned 65, But I am not aware if or what he was paid, Because he also done some farming, so he might have paid taxes on that. But the Assistant pastor is now the pastor & we have a young assistant pastor now. They are not being pay any money from the church, The pastor we have now is retired from Ford Motor Co. & he is working with the now assistant pastor, on home remodling. So they are not being paid by the church, Our Late Pastor wife is being supported by the church, That is what the bible say to do. She is in her late 70's, So as of now no pastor is being paid a salary & they own their own home & drive their own car, And I have known these ministers since 1974.

My pastor's salary is $800.00 per month. He does not ask the church for a car or parsonage. Many times he puts most of his salary back into the church. He doesn't preach for the money. He runs his own business that actually requires him to work for a living. Any preachers out there that are preaching for the money are in the wrong line of work.

My Pastor is bi-vocational. The Church doesn't pay him a salary at his request. He built and opened the Church, so I feel he can pretty much do what he wants, he owns it.
He is an Author, and makes his own personal money.

My church has multiple pastors, their salary is the leftovers from the offerings, after paying bills for the church. It is low, but they enjoy what they do, so they take it.

He makes about $500/week, but church pays his house and one car. And I think utilities too. Oh, and he don't pay taxes either.

I am the pastor of my own house and as such I do not get paid. However, I get the benefit of reading the bible and comprehending it on my own without being spoonfed what someone else wants me to believe. If I am in error then I can only blame myself and not anyone else for it.

I never asked him, I'm assuming he is worth more than a couple million. Well deserved if you asked me.
He has done more good for people than we will ever know.
