Most of the Germans speak English. And it's so similar to English that sooner or later it'll most likely be absorbed by the latter.

I doubt it, that would be like saying, the hispanics will take over the US and every is going to speak spanish.
The only reason most people speak english is because it is the universal language. be it military, pilots, bussiness men...etc.
and by the way, I'm german and I have to disagree with you on german and english being similar.
you can go anywhere in the world (exept south florida) and people with most likely speak english, even if it's broken.
