You CANNOT get heart palpitations from the Atkins diet. There is nothing about cutting out bread, pasta, rice and high sugar fruits that is unhealthy.

The BIG problem with people getting sick on Atkins is because THEY DON'T ACTUALLY FOLLOW IT. They start eating steak, cheese and butter, eliminating vegetables entirely. Atkins followers eat MORE vegetables than most Americans. From the beginning of week one you eat 3-4 cups per day. Did you do that?

Doctors are now beginning to put diabetics and heart patients on Atkins because it works and is extremely healthy, far healthier than the typical food pyramid.

If you're going to "do" Atkins I strongly suggest that you actually buy and read the book and follow it as written.

I've been on Atkins since early 2004 and have never been healthier. I have endless energy, need less sleep and totally enjoy what I eat. I also have my doctor's blessing as well as incredibly fantastic blood work that puts me into a category only 5% of adults are in.

Don't let anyone ever tell you it's unhealthy. It's the media that has it all wrong. Atkins is NOT a fad diet and highly misunderstood. It's a way of eating that you follow for life. If you use it just for the purpose of losing weight and then go back to what you were eating before you WILL gain the weight back. How do you think you gained it in the first place?

BTW... Dr. Atkins did NOT die as a result of following his diet.

I've never been on the Atkins diet..but, when you get heart palpitations it might help if you bear down like your gonna take a dump..I know this sounds odd, but I work in a hospital and a few months ago I started getting palpitations at work..The nurse told me to do this and the palpitation went away. But, if your getting this a lot you probably should go get it checked out right away and if it's this diet your on. Get off the diet!!

I never used Atkins but if you are getting heart palpitation quit the diet. it is not a healthy diet and there has been some discussion that Dr. Atkins died from his own diet, the only way to lose weight is to eat healthy and exercise.
