The rda for magnesium is 400mg, but if you have a deficiency I am assuming you would take more. I haven't had any luck on google with this question. I would appreciate any professional advice or a good link that deals with dosage for deficiency.

Do you know how much magnesium you are getting in your diet currently? How do you know you have a deficiency? Why don't you just buy some magnesium at the health food store and take 400 mg per day, if that's the RDA. You'll know you're taking too much magnesium if you get diarrhea. Magnesium acts as a laxative when you take too much. I recommend a product called "Ionic Fizz" with magnesium. It dissolves in water and is a yummy drink that makes it easier for your body to digest/absorb the magnesium. You can buy it at www.iherb.com.
