Just wondering how often you take your doggies to the groomer and if you bathe your dogs in between visits. Also, what kind of dog do you have? I have a yorkie that, I think, I'll be taking to a professional once a month. But she defenatly needs a bath or two in between visits. Is this too often? She gets quite smelly from playing with our other two outdoor dogs. I'm not going to keep them apart, and I know you shouldn't bathe too often, so I'm just wondering if my plan sounds okay...?

I do want to grow her hair out fairly long, at least once. She is only 5.5 months now though and doesn't have her adult coat yet.

Once a month for grooming a Yorkie is fine. I usually recommend every 4-6 weeks for that breed. BUT..it depends on how long you want to keep the hair. Some people shave them down real short, so they really only need a haircut every 3 months. If you want to keep the dog in full coat (hair down to the ground) then you need to keep it combed out daily and every 2 weeks to the groomer.
You CAN bathe your dog as often as needed without stripping oils provided you use a good quality mild shampoo followed by a conditioner. I bathe my dogs (and several clients dogs) once a week and have never seen any skin problems.

I'm a dog groomer, and your dog will need to visit the groomer every 6-8 weeks, or maybe more. It depends if you want to keep her in a full coat or want her clipped in short. Try not to bath your dog too often you will strip her skin of natural oils and she could end up with a skin condition. You can buy sprays for your dog (your groomer may sell these) which you can use every day if necessary. These should combat the smell. Dogs should never be bathed unless absolutely necessary ie rolling in muck, really dirty in horrible weather.

Also try keeping her indoors... dogs are family pets they should be kept with the family. If she is indoors she wont get as dirty and smelly.

I have a cocker spainel that I groom myself every 2-3 months(I usually give him the sport cut, which is compleatly shaved, leaving about a 1/4" of hair) My 1 year old daughter enjoys sharing her supper with him and it usually ends up on him so he gets bathed once a month or so....

I have a Border Collie-I get him groomed about every 8-10 weeks. I do not bathe him in between. Bathing in between usually creates matts and makes it difficult for the groomer to properly groom his haircoat.

your thought about taking your pet to the vet once a month is fine but every 6 to 8 weeks is okay also. a bath once in between visits is okay but 2 isn't necessary. ask your vet about some deoderizer for your pet.

Never have to take mine! :-) I show Labradors and you just wipe them down with a damp towel between baths. It's OK to bathe up to once a week but really not more than that. So your plan sounds fine!
