I'd say Browning makes a slightly nicer rifle, just a touch, both very good though. I think the Browning barrels are better. I'm interested in a medium weight hunting rifle right now and those two as well as Tikka and Sako (both owned by Beretta now?) are in the frame too. Aren't Browning rifles made in Japan now?

Ruger makes a better pistol. The Ruger 22 semi autos are the best choice for rifle and pistol actually.

I actually prefer the Browning Hi-Power to any semi-auto Ruger makes, but I think the Ruger revolvers are better than anything anyone else makes, I have a GP100 but I think there's a couple more in my future.

If you are talking rifles, you really can't go wrong either way. Think of it in these terms, if either company made a poor quality rifle, they would either be out of business or their cost for a rifle would be lower than what it is.

Personally, I opt for Brownings, only because their rifles are prettier than Rugers. Both brands are accurate enough for hunting right out of the box (and then some usually).

If you are talking handguns, I would opt for Ruger. Not that there is anything wrong with Browning handguns, but Ruger is known for their single-action revolvers and I have had great success with them.

Both companies are very renown, and have some similarities and some odds, too. Browning had been founded by famous American arms inventor John Moses Browning credited with numerous patents in firearms, but he met the peak of his carrier in the Old world, in Belgian Company FN, the owner of Browning Co. Messrs. Sturm and Ruger found their fortune in the New World, after the WW II, and are one of the most perspective firearms Co. today.

depends on what product you are looking for. if i wanted a knife, i would look to neither of those brands.

to answer your question, for pistols, i would probably look to Ruger, especially for revolvers. anyway, thanks for the broad question.
