I do not know which specific celebration you are talking about but my guess for all of them would be that..
a) home= it sets a mood for good will and happiness which is then reflected outside the home.
b)Individual= gives feeling of happiness and oneness with that which is being celebrated.
c)religion= unites people of the same faith to share in the happiness and reverence of that which is being celebrated.
d)family= it gives feeling of happiness and pride to share traditions and pulls the unit closer together as they re evaluate that which is important to them.

notice this could be any celebration....Christmas, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc.

Celebration is the effect. Think about what celebration really is... You have to let a lot of things go to really share in the moment. Joy and Exuberance do tend to marinate into our lives. Celebration can trigger this. This marination takes the form of a lasting joy and a feeling of ease. One of the most connected phenomenon is synchronicity, which allows us to realize our interconnection with all of existence - including the home, individual, religion, and family.

a terrific time for a get together of family and friends which makes an individual happier for a short period of time forgetting the problems of the world. the family has a chance to become acquainted with other friends and relatives while the religious aspects are shown by love and understanding of all who come together to celebrate.

As a Christian, most holidays and celebration are nothing but old pagan tradition. X'mas for sun worshippers that celebrated the the birth of the sun (not son) in winter solstice. New Year's the roman god Janus. Easter, the goddess of fertility Ashtarte who's symbols are the bunny and the egg and celebrates with sexual orgies just like today's spring breaks.

Still cleaning up after Halloween and El Dia de los Muertes. Lots of gringos and Mexican friends, great parties, real Oaxaca chicken mole, Tequila, wine and solemn circle remembering our deceased loved ones. Getting ready for Yule. In our family, any excuse for a party.
