i know the pack says only take 2 as directed but what is the maximum safe dose an adult can take??

Which means that you should take no more than 2 every 6 hours.
If there is a lot of pain, doctors recomend you take an alternative pain killer along with it. Normaly ibuprofen is also prescribed.
So what you do is take the Solpadol, then after 3 hours take the Ibuprofen, and then 3 hours after that take Solpadol again...that should cover it.
HOWEVER.
If you suffer from stomach problems then DO NOT take ibuprofen because it will make it worst.
NO ALCOHOL either

2. To take more is asking for trouble as the drug can build up in teh body over a 24 hour period and cause an overdose. Only take 4 doses (8 tablets) in any 24 hour period.

Stick to what it says on the pack. It has codeine in, which is addictive so dont use them for too long. if its not working take ibuprofen too, in between the doses of co-codamol.
Dont take ibuprofen if you have ulcers or tummy problems, or are asthmatic.
If you need morepain killer than this, see your doctor, he can give you something stronger like tramadol or diclofenac.
You dont say what the pain killer is for, some work better on different things.

dont get fooled. it says 8 in 24 hours but some people take 8 in 12 hours by accident because you dont take them from 12 til 12 the following day, because that is technically 24 hours. do not take more than 4 in a day. so best thing to do is one in the morning one at lunch and so on. hope this helps.

i take co-codamol 30/500 and you should not take.more than two at time.and no more than 8 in a day because they are very strong.and dont take with alcohol
