I do not have much (3 years) martial arts training, but I have more (7 years) of teaching others sports in a class setting. My tip would be to demonstrate the theory of being like water by adapting your class to suit the students you see in front of you. A few times I have heard other teachers saying 'how do you get them to do what you tell them to?' my answer would be to change what you do! Hope that is in alignment with the water theory you hope to follow. Yes I know that throws lesson plans out the virtual window but we must challenge ourselves with new things. Good luck

well just as yupchagee said, persistence and adaptability (the way water can take shape of anything it's put in) are the two best ways to "be like water".
the only visual way is actually showing the way the technique is done in your disciplines manner, and then doing it again but changing up the technique by using a different technique either in the initial counter or after the counterattack, because it's adapting to the opponent's size, experience, etc. is what it's referring to. because some techniques that work on one person may not work against another

Have several vessels that are clear glass. Pour the water from container to container. Show them how water takes on the shape of the void.
Use an aquarium. Fill it a quarter of the way up. Pick up one side and set it back down. Tell them to focus on the returning wave actions. Watch the water as it forms crests and valleys. Also, here is another exercise with an aquarium, allow them to look down on the surface of the water. Tell them to focus on the reflection of a light. Drop a penny in, watch the reflections as it distorts and them comes back into focus, chaos and order.
Talk about the crashing surf and the power it generates.

That is a very nice thing to do to teach about water.
You can go from a very complex of chemistry about H2O, wear a custume with two atoms(hydrogen and oxygen). You can explain about its bonding and how it can desolve other materials.
or
You can demonstrate water from being usefull source in every day life andhow living things rely on it.
or You can demonstrate the power of water how it can destroy anything in its path.
I know I didn't explain in details much about it, I hope someone who knows more about water can. Goodluck.

There are many aspects to being like water: Adapting to circunstances & Persistence are the 1st 2 that come to mind. you can demonstrate how water takes the shape of its container. For persistence, a field trip to a stream or beach might be best.

If your able go to a local aquarium to get the experience of being in water.. the freedom and how it just flows with things. Bring in big tubs of water for students to run their hands through or a fountain, maybe some rain music?! Best of luck.. ooo something relaxing... sounds?

Fill a bowl with water, put a ping pong ball in it. Then ask your students to push the ball to the bottom with the fingers.
Show them a picture of the Grand Canyon.

Depending on the thory, heres the way I see it,
A mountain stream finds its way down the mountain, toward the placid lake.
The mighty river carves its way, as it becomes the mighty sea...
