Oh.. a tough questin.. If It was ME.. and they were good neighbors, I would charge nothing.... but if you are not particularly close and a neighbor asked you, people do charge as much as $20 a day which I think is disgusting.. You could charge $10 a day but even that is a lot for what little you do(other than a peace of mine for the owner of the kitty).. or you could charge just $5 a day.....??

If it's a close friend, I wouldn't charge anything. If they have asked you, but not said anything, perhaps they plan on paying you when they get back. I watched my friends dog for two days, and they gave me $20. Waaay too much for a friend, and I told her I wouldn't take it. But she forced me to in the end. It could happen like that.
Don't say anything, it would seem rude. But if you enjoy the job and think that perhaps you could sit animals in your spare time, you could charge $5 a day for simply walking/litter box and feeding and watering them once at their house. If they are to stay at your house, I would charge $10. This isn't a lot, but if this is just a simply spare time job you could make quite a profit and keep customers coming back.
Good luck!

I would pay $15 a day for one visit and $30 a day for two from a professional pet sitter (also a friend and I wouldn't consider not paying her as she makes her living that way). I have six cats too so it's no mean task to clean up and feed that many.
You don't give a profile so I don't know if you are an adult or a neighborhood youngster who wants extra cash.
I would do it for free as I love cats and if a friend were doing it for me I would certainly make her a nice gift of flowers, a plant or something I know she would particularly like for helping me out in this way.

I have a guinea pig rescue, and from time to time we watch peoples piggies when they go on vacation, we charge a $1.00 a day if they provide the food, bedding and the cage. If we have to provide a cage bedding and food we charge $2.00 a day, but if I was watching my friends animal or neighbors animal I would do it for free as some day I may need a favor in return, (O:

no sitting with the baby being left alone?.
id charge two hours min wage per day at least as you should go twice per day to check at least.
unless neighbor cant afford... then lower rate.
i am very surprised they didn't suggest pay rate when offered the job.! is she asking you to be nice not employed?
you might want to (call school or ask local parents) see what local babysitters make and do a similar rate.

I agree with zen. If your neighbours do want to give you some money, they can (perhaps they will give you that way even more than if you charged them a reasonable sum, i. e. 5 - 10 $ per day).

I would charge nothing. It is a compliment that they trust you with their precious baby. If people don't charge me for watching my cat I always bring them a nice gift back, maybe your neighbor will too!

Nothing!
You may need a favor yourself, someday!
If you took care of mine (I have five) I wouldn't pay you, but I'd get you flowers, or bake you a cheesecake when I got back. :-))
Helping our neighbors should be required, not paid for!
