Im looking into buying a new car and I cant decide on which one! I currently have an older Volvo and love it! But I kind of want something new/ different. The new Civics are awesome and I can see myself in one, but I just dont know. They both handly beautifully and both are unique in their own ways. The price of a used Volvo S40, I could get a brand new Civic with all the extra's... Anyone have any tips on either car? I know the upkeep for the Volvo would be a lot, but it has an amazing history... CONFUSED!!!

I'd go with a used Volvo. Anytime you buy a new car, it depreciates the instant you drive it off the lot. With used cars you don't have that problem. Gotta take into consideration insurance costs, mechanical upkeep (which Honda has great reliability too), and safety features (a Volvo strong suit). Drive both cars, for more than a trip around the block with a salesperson. Which one feels better to you? You're the one driving, get what you're comfortable with.

I own a 2005 S40 T5 and love it. I bought it used with 14000 miles and like you was debating between the S40 and a new car (I was thinking of a new Jetta). I got a a really good deal and the car had 18 months of warranty left on it.

If you have the time to shop around for a used one that fits your criteriaI think the used S40 is better. The design is almost flawless, it handles well and the acceleration is strong (on the T5). I've never owned a Volvo before, but after 6 months, so far so good. I think the Civic is attractive, but still too common.

I have owned both brands and The older volvos are good cars. Volvo after 1999 are Swedish Fords stay away from them. The new Civic are great in dependability, reliability, safety and fuel economy. The new volvos look good but that's it. Even the design changes in the past year they are still a ford, the s40 is based on the Ford Focus/Mazda 3. YUK!

Go with the civic.

Sounds like wiring. If you're so inclined and have someone who can hold the brakes or set your turn signals while you work on it you can probably fix it yourself. Otherwise have it checked out. 2006 Civic EX coupe? Did you get a rim job to go with that fancy set of wheels? j0e (still driving his 2002 Civic DX sedan after 176,000 km (110,000 miles))

The volvo before the 2005 redesign was basically a souped up ford Contour (if you remember that car). Basically it sucked.

The current design volvo is much better.
