I have this friend and he's a complete gentleman when I'm alone with him or with one of his close friends...but when we're surrounded by a lot of people, he treats me like crap and ignores me. We're good friends and it's getting annoying cause although some say that he might have feelings for me, I'm pretty sure that he's not over his former flame.
Is he just being a jerk?

Guys can't show their emotions when they are around the rest of the dawgs.... It would make them vulnerable and the dawgs would ridicule them. They want to impress, they want to fit in, they want to be accepted and need to feel part of the pack... It is nothing personal, I am sure he really care, it is the male way.. enjoy your time alone and give him some gentle touches, kisses on the cheek, hugs and let him feel comfortable being in contact with you. Some guys are really shy with people in general, more so with ones that they know. They feel awkward and they don't want to look like a fool.So they bumble along. Take the lead next time you are alone, but don't be too forward, he will let you know if he is interested...
when he is with lots of people, hang back and don't try to be too close, he will find his way to you if you step out of the limelight.

Sounds like he's just trying to act like a "cool guy" whatever the hell that is, and to be a "cool guy" is to not care about girls that you like (in front of other people that is) and to just ignore them. Because it gives off the impression (sometimes) that that happens a lot, so a lot of girls like him so he must be an awesome guy. He might like you but just want to seem cool as well. Next time he does that just ignore him and walk away, talk to someone else and if he talks to you again and acts like a gentleman ignore him a bit to give him a taste of his own medicine and to make him chase you !

Someone recently gave me this advice: Guys know the way the they want to act, and the way they should act. With people he's close to, he feels more comfortable being himself, but with a group, he will act the way he thinks he's supposed to.

sounds like it!you need to tell him what he is doing and how it makes you fill and if it don't stop you might want to try to find a true friend. BEST OF LUCK HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT.

it sounds like he likes you, and maybe he's afraid to tell you. he might be afraid of ruining the friendship if the relationship doesn't work out. either way talk to him and find out what is going on
