The 3rd one up is herneated and they will fuse that one.... Does this all sound right???? Please help! Has anyone had the same experence? How could your disks be dead??? The pain that i have in my back is from the herneated disk, not the two bottom lumbar degenerated ones,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Will i have problems later????

I had the spinal fusion on disks L-4 and L-5 around 10 years ago. It was rough but worth it. I have degenerative disc disease also. I am now having to consider doing it again on the next area up. My fusion is holding but the disc above is herniated. It is compressing the nerves. Please don't wait to long to decide about having the surgery because the damage can sometimes not be repaired. I have had a good 10 years without a lot of pain and I will probably have the surgery again, depending on other medical issues. Remember you have to take care of you and it will take time to heal. If i can help, let me know. Good luck

hi,
hope you did not just go with one doctor and one opinion with a situation that is as severe as yours.without seeing mri and x-rays
i don't believe anyone answering your question can give you appropriate advice, but i will say that getting not just two or three but many opinions from experts in lumbar pain is essential. just remember once you have surgery, reversing that is not an option.
it is not like getting a bad haircut, you'll live with this decision for the rest of your days and being terribly limited in mobility.
so i strongly suggest to get on your computer and do a search for experts in bulging discs and "dead" discs and see what the
absolute authorities say in every field not just allopathic medicine
there may be an alternative that you haven't even heard of that might be right for you
good luck

I use a chiropractor and therapeutic massage therapist with the standards within the ebook on the backside and not often must take some thing further for discomfort. Much discomfort is from muscle tissue under is an illustration of what would possibly aid (situated on complications). Begin with a pair swigs of molasses or a few bananas (ordinary muscle relaxers) day-to-day - magnesium (which regulates many matters within the frame) and potassium (a wanted constructing block for muscle tissue). Drink no less than a million/two gallons of water according to day. Running a frame low on water is like walking a vehicle low on oil is the analogy the top of neurology at UCDavis instructed my husband approximately 10 years in the past. Now to the rationale - muscle tissue - your again, neck shoulders and head have delicate spots. They are knots within the fibers of the muscle tissue referred to as cause facets. It makes the muscle tissue tight which makes them press on nerves and different matters inflicting the discomfort. The treatment - begin with a official therapeutic massage, (if this doesn't do it you most often desire a chiropractor as good) you're going to additionally desire to return over any location you'll get to six-12 occasions according to consultation as much as 6 occasions according to day rubbing (or calmly scratching to your head) each in which that's delicate till the knots leave. The location in which the cranium connects to the backbone press up underneath the brink of the cranium (to get to these muscle tissue). For extra knowledge learn The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook via Davies. It teaches what to do and in which the discomfort comes from.

your discs are living entities. They need nutrients and when they do not get those nutrients, they die or dissicate.
If I were you I would exhaust all alternative healthcare methods before undergoing invasive treatment. Invasive may be the only answer, but try everything else first. For example: chiropractic, massage, PT, accupuncture, herbals, etc.
The disc itself will not give you pain. It does not have a nerve supply. It is the pressure upon nerves and tissues surrounding it that is giving you the pain.

Get a second opinion or even a third if necessary. Your back is nothing to mess around with.
