Go ahead with the bouquet/garter toss, but you don't have to do the latter part where the bachelor puts the garter on the bachelorette.
Some other fun things to at your wedding: Have the d.j. ask all married couples to join you and your bride on the dance floor. Every couple of minutes he'll ask couples who've been married less than 1 year to leave the dance floor (except you and your wife), it gets whittled down to the longest married couple and you and your bride, then you exchange partners - She dances with the longest married man, you with the longest married woman. Very sweet. Hey! As an alternate to the bouquet/garter toss, you could give that couple the bouquet and garter as special memento's!
Congratulations & Have fun!

I guess no one else gets the idea that it would be very awkward and uncomfortable if a single "girl" and an older man were the "lucky" winners of the tosses. I dont know an alternative, but I agree that you should cut it out of your wedding. Im 24 and if some guy over 50 had to put a garter on my leg I would be very freaked out! wouldn't you!? Not to mention the fact that it would make the man look like a pervert, regardless of whether or not it is a tradition.

This is an easy alternative ask all the married couples to the dance floor.then have someone call out those married less than a year sit down and so on till only one couple is left say at the 25 year mark and give them the bouquet and garter.
Or give the bouquet and honor a women who is close to or someone who has helped th most. Then have your husband honor the guy who has helped him the most by giving him the garter.

You can really forgoe the bouquet/garter toss and do more of an anniversary dance. The couple that is married the longest is the winner. It is often fixed, say if your grandparents just celebrated a nice sized anniversary.

Way less people do the garter toss, but still the bouquet toss. If you don't want to do either, just don't do them! Don't need to have alternatives.

You could still throw a bouquet.... only, throw a loose bouquet. Get the whole group to gather around, and then when you toss the flowers, they will scatter everywhere and everyone (or the vast majority of the them) will get a flower.
If you choose to do this, make sure your photographer captures the moment - it makes a great picture that you'll love!

As long as you have 2 or 3 single gals, a bouquet toss is ok, and men always love to catch a gals garter, no matter what age!

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about an alternative. We DID throw both at our wedding (but threw both at the same time to a group of men and women who could choose for themselves which they'd rather catch), but if we hadn't, we wouldn't have missed it. It's nice of you to realize how awkward it would be for those few guests! The anniversary dance is a fun idea, especially since most of your guests are already married.

Have a dollar dance. It can be alot of fun! All the men who want to dance with the bride and all the women who want to dance with the groom line up...the maid of honor and best man collect a dollar from each guest who dances....the MofH and BM time about 20-30 sec for the guest to dance and then they allow someone else to dance. You can make some money and it can be ALOT of fun for everyone!

Delete it from the program. Give flowers away instead!
