Why is that guys seem to gravitate towards the girls that are obviuosly flirty or the ones that throw themselves at every guy they see and don't seem to detect the subtle signals coming from girls who aren't as flirty?

Subtle doesn't work for men. Men don't understand women so if you try to be cryptic with them you will be banging your head against a wall.
If you would like to go to see a movie with him, in a subtle way you could tell him you have read favourable reviews about this movie. (uh, cool)
Or you could ask him if he will go to this movie with you.
send him all the subtle telepathic messages you like and maybe your success rate will double
Subtle doesn't work and Flirting doesn't work (unless you just want to play around) straight-up works

I know what you mean! The male mind is a very small and simple thing. Sometimes instead of sending "subtle messages" you have to come straight out and say what's on your mind. You can do this without appearing "flirty" or being deemed as one of those chics that throw themselves at every guy. If your interested in a guy, walk right up and tell him what it is about him that caught your eye in the first place and a conversation could take off from there.

I have been married for twenty years. I have NEVER picked up on a signal from my wife. Men are wired differently. We are nt geared for covert signals. We need overt gestures to understand things.
The opposite is also true. If a woman asks a man a 'yes' or 'no' question, she will get a 'yes' or a 'no'. However, she will then try to decipher what he really meant.
Women always look for a deeper meaning, while men are content with the more obvious.

guys usually are the ones who have to try and get the girls. So when a girl comes after him he is too busy looking for a girl, to actually realize there is one actually going after him. Also, I think that girls are naturally better body language readers then men. Most men can't read between the lines like a lot of women.

A lot of girls here have said that men are stupid and clueless. It is more a matter of being lazy. If a guy walks into a room and a girl is playing hard to get and another girls signals are saying "I am easy" who should he talk to?

Guys look for the easy way out everytime. try to flirt more but do go table dancing in the school cafiteria. just talk to him and guys are stupid so giggle at all his jokes . they for some reason they all think they are comedeans and they are sometimes dinse so they wont really know that you are faking. also sit faceing him when ever you can , stand close when you are standing , talk about everything with him not daeep darl secrets find out what he is interested in and then do your home work.

Subtle signals can be misunderstood, clear communication is what a relationship should be based on anyway, so it is more beneficial to just wave wink or say hi.

honey...u talk as though u consider guys equally intelligent? dont u know they're lesser beings?
lol...just kidding...its just that most ppl aint that good at detecting tiny signs.... not just guys....a lotta girls r like that too...(i put myself up as an example)
of course...and i dont mean to offend u by this or anything... but r u sure ur signs r noticable? maybe they r soooooo incredibly subtle that no one can see them or just dismiss them...

I hate this so much... it seems like this is just everyday life... well first of all i wont want to sound sexist but sometimes guys are idiots.... don't worry there will be a perfect guy out there for you who doesnt need a girl to throw herself on him
