my boss lady said simiar things, and i told her i didnt appreciate and got reprimanded for confronting her. this other co-worker is violent and if i tell her where to go what if it gets ugly and i lose my job? even though im right?

Find other work and till then you can play the game which ever way you want. From a yes every time to other answrs.

Take your "friend" aside perhaps sometime out of work and calmly ASK her why she does it. If you have ever had someone ask you why you did something mean/wrong, (depending on the person) you might have been extremely uncomfortable looking for an answer. If she makes a joke answer or says "I dunno" keep pressing for an answer so she knows you aren't kidding. If she refuses to answer honestly, get frustrated and "stomp" into the other room.
Also, it sounds like you have a very abusive working environment. If you cannot get your so-called friend to stop calling you retarded, take some time to come up with some quirky comebacks! She may be trying to get you to look dumb to get ahead at work. Were you recently promoted or do you have a better job than her?
If you try everything and cannot get her to stop being a jerk, I would recommend making a new friend at work and avoid your "retard friend." If possible, be friends with someone who would have the power to punish her. She might get spooked and knock it off.

Ignore her firstly.... DO not converse with her at all. Be friendly with everyone else. She has probably got a reputation for doing this to other people. Swearing at her won't get you anywhere.
If she does it again, smile at her ,cross your eyes and stick your thumb in your mouth and suck it then flutter your eye lashes... She will stop, once she knows you are not affected by her words anymore....and will go onto someone else.....

don't descend to her level, quietly go see your supervisor or boss and tell him/her what is going on. There is no reason to put up with abuse.
If you get no support there....you might as well tell the other one off, as the only other alternative is to leave.

just ignore her don't even listen. by listening and showing that it hurt is just giving in to her plan. if you don't listen to her and pretend that she isn't saying anything she will get bored and give up.

thats terrible, i have this one friend that does that , and she makes me look stupid in front of people and it hurts. shes really sarcastic sometimes. just tell her how you dont like that she does that and youll find out if shes your friend or not
