It always hangs between his legs, and he never wags it. He is very reluctant to sit down, and when I took his tail to have a look, he whined.
Somebody please give me a solution besides taking him to the vet. I'm just a kid, I can't pay for it.

you guys obviously didn't hear me right...I said that I wanted a solution BESIDES the vet! Sure, my parents are involved, and they could afford it, I just don't want them to pay for it, because it's my dog and it's my responsibility.
Did you even research before you answered? Are you sure there is no other alternative? If there isn't, I'm fine with that, and I'll take him to the vet. Just please don't ridicule me and say I shouldn't own him at all. I love him and I'll do anything for him.
For those of you who didn't answer like that...thanks.
Please give me some real answers now.

even if you have to let your parents pay for this vet visit, you can always pay them back. your dog's comfort and health should come first. we cannot diagnose your dog's problem here. as dog owner's we recommend going to the vet.
if you love your dog as much as you say you do, then quickly work out something with either your vet or your parents to get the bill paid.
good luck....ps, i'm glad you love your dog so much!!

I think when the situation arises and your pet is reluctant to sit like a normal living thing would, you should ask yourself is it a matter of responsibility and ego or doing whats right to end his suffering. You should go to the vet, whether you take on a job and pay the fees yourself or take it from your family or friends. Leaving the pet this way shows that you are irresponsible. If you will leave it this way for a period it could result in having to dock your dogs tail and that will even be more expenses!

honestly, i think you should take it to a professional(like a vet), if you go to your parents, i think they will understand and help for an extream case like a broken tail.
theres not really going to be a better option then the vet as you would not try to heal your own broken arm or what not if you were injured.
Edit:
even though your dog is your resopncability, its perfectly alright to ask for help with such a serious issue, if your dogs tail is broken, then he is in pain, you should not attempt to set it your self or anything like that as you may do more damage then good, with out x-rays and being a professional in the feild you nor any of us here can give you a deffinate answer
you may not want to hear this again but, you really should take it to the vet, no other options are sencable then some one who is train to deal with situations like this.

There is no other solution that taking your dog to the vet, my friend. An untreated broken tail on a dog is a serious matter and you need to get him medical attention ASAP.
I have a feeling from the details in your message that you keep him outside...he is probably dirty and/or got into a fight with another dog???
I suggest you check out your dogs tail for any swelling and/or open sores as well. If this is the case, you need to soak his tail and keep it clean it with warm water.
AND...get your parents involved for God's sake!

Are you a kid with parents? Please take it to the vet, your dog it probably suffering, is that what you want? There is nothing anyone here can do for your dog, sorry. You really have to talk to your parents. Don't they know whats happening? I am sure if you have a family dog, then the family cares about it.
Call a vet, sometimes they can make payment plans..please do it today. It really is painful for your dog. Good luck..let you know what you do.

If you can't afford to have an animal and properly take care of it you shouldn't have one at all. At the age of 12 I forfeited my allowance for 6 months and worked weekends in my grandfathers office to pay for a vet bill for my cat.
Do the same and take it to the vet!
