I like the song "Cruisin'" done by Gwyneth Paltrow and... ack, I can't remember the guy who sang with her. Erm, it's more of a love song though, so you might not want to do that one...

Short Answer: I like the "Next time I fall in love" duet by Amy Grant and Peter Cetera from Chicago.

Long Answer: Does your school have a choir director who could evaluate your voices? It depends on your ranges, and how well your voices harmonize. You could go for country, inspirational/Gospel (example: Nash family, nash3.com), or even Broadway (West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, Grease). For harmonies, old classics by Simon & Garfunkel. I like the "Next time I fall in love" duet by Amy Grant and Peter Cetera from Chicago.

If you want popular new music, you may be better off writing your own material as that seems to be the trend with self-production these days. Just look at myspace online. Of all the talent shows at my high school, the song I remember clearly was by a classmate who sang a very simple original song to acoustic guitar. I can still remember the words to her chorus, after hearing it once or twice 20 years ago, but I could not tell you the lyrics to one song on the radio today.

If you can do something original, I encourage you either this time or next year. Here are some sample lyrics I plan to produce for radio:
http://www.houstonprogressive.org/sonnet06.html "Ode to Love"
http://www.houstonprogressive.org/believe/believe.html "Heroes in Heaven" memorial tribute to firefighters and families of 9/11

I am always looking to hire vocalists to record tracks for posting on the web if you are interested. -- Emily Nghiem, emilynghiem@yahoo.com Houston Progressive . Org

If he's a tenor and you're an alto, a good song for you two would be either "Little Fall of Rain" from Les Miserables OR "Sun and Moon" from Miss. Saigon. Also, the song "Dangerous Game" from Jekyll & Hyde

Actually, it would depend a lot on what type of voices you have..High, low, in-between.

I've always thought that "You've Got A Friend" would be a great duet (Carole King song, most famous by James Taylor). It really describes what a true friend is.

Another good "friends but not lovers" song would be Michael W. Smith's "Friends" ("Friends are friends forever...")
