You know, this same question was removed YESTERDAY!

If you believe in the Bible, the chicken came first. "And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. And God said, 'Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven'." Genesis 1:19-20. Chickens are a type of fowl, so the Christian Bible says that chickens came first.

If you have a different religion, you might have a different belief about the how the treasures of the earth came to be. In the science of evolution, both chickens and eggs came before man. Since both the birds and the eggs were on earth first, historians weren't around to record which came first.

Whichever answer you gave, it's okay. A chicken can't be born without a chicken egg and a chicken egg can't be laid without a chicken. Both chickens and eggs are important!

It wasn't this simple so the question cannot be answered - it is a leading question that assume to already know the possible answers.

If you follow evolution backwards - then you will get to a point bofore chickens laid eggs, the ability to reproduce would have come at a much earlier stage in the chicken.

As a consequence, there was no egg or chicken dilema.

The Egg. Different species would have bred together and evolved into the chicken. Therefor for the first chicken to have been 'born' it must have come from the egg

I read a joke that said- A chicken and an egg were in bed and the chicken lit a cigarette as the egg rolled over and said to the chicken,"Well, now we know the answer to that question!"

When I was still a small child I remember hearing someone say "the egg came first, and God hatched it". that has always stuck with me. I have no idea which actually came first, I would think the chicken.

timely debate

1) an amoeba developed into the chicken and the egg, there fore that came first

or

2)things were laying eggs to reproduce way before the chicken existed therefore the egg came first.

The egg came first, laid by something that wasn't a chicken. or was it the other way around.

I think it is the Egg that came first.

Let us consider that life got evolutes (evolution n. 1 gradual development. 2 development of species from earlier forms, as an explanation of their origins) from microorganism (micro-organism n. microscopic organism, e.g. bacteria, protozoa, and viruses). In that event, the egg must have formed or evolved (develop gradually and naturally) first and gradually the chicken was born.

Have a nice omelet!
