Sure,
1. London - obviously, as its the capital city and it contains all the famous tourist sites (Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, etc., etc.)
2. Bath - fantastic laid back atmosphere, thriving music scene, lovely Cotswold countryside, fantastic buildings, the Royal Crescent, the Roman Baths, the Abbey, Poulteney Bridge, great pubs, nice clubs
3. York - friendly people, young university students everywhere, one of the finest cathedrals in Europe (York Minster), excellent pubs, clubs and restaurants, the Jorvik Viking Centre, surrounded by Yorkshire countryside at its prettiest, medieval street still trading (The Shambles), railway museum (if you like that sort of thing), castle

Manchester (I am a bit biased). It's got everything: history, culture, loads of great shops, brilliant food, and used to be the home of partying and clubbing in the 80s. It's much better than London, which is an over-rated, over-priced place, where the streets are paved with sh*t and the people look at you like you're an alien wielding a machine gun if you ask them for directions. Manchester - apart from being a great place - is full of friendly folk.
Hull is friendly, nice, not too expensive, and has some good clubs and pubs. Spyders is the best club - bizarre cocktails, characterful decor, gothy punters, and great loud music. You must try the "pink pugsley" and the "pangalactic gargle-blaster" if you go there. You can also get to Beverley easily from Hull, which is a lovely town - quite posh, lovely pubs and tea-shops, and cheese-shops, and of course, the famous "Minster".
If you MUST go south, then Oxford is quite nice - good pubs, the famous University, and the Bodleian Library. Very relaxing place to stroll around in the Summer. If not, then go to Edinburgh - the Castle, the pubs, the culture, and a very nice place to visit all in all - so I'm told.

1) London- It is the general rule that the capital city of a country is the best place to go because it has so many tourist sites, and this is true with England. London used to be the center of the civilized world, and many people think it still is, I agree. One of the best things to do in London is a trip on the London eye- an experience comparable with the Eiffel tower in Paris and the Empire state in New York- but without the queues.
2) Cambridge- The home of the best University on Earth is definitely worth a visit. The colleges are world famous and very beautiful, a wander around the backs is highly recommended. And, due to the large student population, there is plenty of musical entertainment.
3) You choose- just pick one of the fine cities from the other answers to this question.

I have only been to the south of England, but...London-for the obvious reasons, the city is beautiful and rich in history. My hometown of Penzance in Cornwall, a quaint seaside village with picturesque views and wonderful people. And last, Plymouth. I used to shop there and it is wonderful. There are many beautiful little towns in Cornwall, the southern most county in England. Lands End is awesome-rugged cliffs, angry waters. St. Ives is a perfect place to spend an afternoon. Check out cornwallcam.co.uk It is a great site-thanks for asking!

1. London-because it's full of history and art. The theatre is great and it's lively and always something to do. 2. Bath-because of the history there. Also it's a nice smaller city with a lively feeling to it. 3. York-To see the city walls and the Minster. Also it's a nice small city with a lively, young population. Very appealing.
