how long does smoke stay in body? i live in a very old house. i live in the front apartment and people live behind me in another apartment. i've had a daily headache for 6yrs now. it feels like someone a tight band around forhead, cheeks, eyes, temples. all sinus areas. doc said stress/migraine, but no meds help. allegra d did help for 2 months than stopped. my husband smells smoke in our apartment. we don't smoke. could the smoke from the back apartment be getting into ours through the walls and cracks? and could this be causing my headaches? how long does it take for second hand smoke to clear out of blood system before be able to see if this is the cause? i left apartment for 3 days still have headaches

It's nothing whatever to do with smoke from next door!

You have to look elsewhere for the problem. Don't try to blame it on someone else. Think what you do or don't do to yourself through diet or stress.
Do you dink two litres of water per day - if not, then you should.
Do you have the TV on constantly - turn it off.
Is there a gas leak in your house, or a leak of freon from the fridge?
Do you get enough exercise and fresh air.
Do you need new specs?
There could be 101 reasons, but it's definitely NOT next doors smoking habits.

If a person smokes and wishes to quit cold turkey, then it takes 7 to 10 days for the nicotine to clear out of their system. I would imagine the same is true for secondhand smoke, since it's actually cigarette smoke whether you're taking it directly from the cigarette or not.

Yes, it can come into your apartment through the walls and cracks and through the electrical outlets. There are a lot of toxins in cigarette smoke and any and all of them can cause headaches as a symptom. If you are experiencing headaches, then you probably have something else wrong as well as a result of breathing in the smoke.

I was dealing with the same thing my whole family smoked. I was having headaches everyday. I would wake up with one and go to sleep with one. They got so bad at times that I could not get out of bed some days. I finally went to the Dr's after about 8 years and they prescribed me Fioricet which is used to stop migraines. You are suppose to take at the first sign of a migraine. I have to take one every morning and sometimes in the afternoon. Most people get things like blurry vision or nauseous. Me I get LOCK JAW. So I suggest asking your Dr about this medication.

Sounds like an allergy, you correctly surmise. I would bet it is due to other factors in that old house, such as molds. Could also be the pollens in your area.

It may be time to visit an allergist, he/she may want to test you or may try some regimen of medications to see if the symptoms can be controlled before launching off on the research to find out the culprit.
