No, but you can safely give a dog BUFFERED Aspirin, preferably with a meal.

p.s. Never give Aspirin to a cat, only ok for dogs.

NO! NO! NO! Please don't give your dog ibuprofen. It can be fatal. I worked for a veterinary specialty clinic (www.pvs-ec.com) and we saw dogs HBC (hit-by-car) all the time. Did your vet do x-rays? Was he/she confident there were no internal injuries? Did your vet prescribe any kind of medication for pain management? It really sounds like you got lousy vet care. I would consider taking your pet to another vet for a second opinion. If that's not an option, call your vet and ask for a prescription for Deramaxx, Rimadyl, or Torbutrol. These are some good, safe pain meds for dogs. Good luck to you.

Firstly, if he was hit by a car, didn't your veterinarian prescribe a pain reliever? If so, could you not refill this medication?

Just as with humans, taking Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) can damage the stomach lining in animals. And there is no set of guidelines for the dosaging of NSAIDS in animals, so how would you know how many miligrams to give and how many tablets?

Call your veterinarian so that he can review your dogs history and make a suggestion on whether to give the Ibuprofen and, if so, how much.

If you're not seeing any improvement in him since the accident, it may be time for a recheck by your vet.

DO NOT GIVE IBUPROFEN OR TYLENOL PRODUCTS TO A DOG!!!! THESE ARE DEADLY MEDICATIONS FOR THEM!!!!!! You may give them ASPIRIN if they are in pain, but I would call your vet to find out how much is acceptable because it is dosed by weight, age, and if there are any other medical problems related to the dogs health.

No... you should NOT give the dog ibuprofen... What you can give is an over the counter ASCRIPTIN.. that is good for dogs.. The exception is possibly for OLD dogs.. I know that my OLD dog vomits when I give it to her for her severe arthritis so I stopped but... for younger dogs... it is OK and is advisable as a medication... the 325 MG tablet and not more..

The easiest way to figure this out and be sure that your answer is right is to call the vet.

No. They can have a REALLY small dose of baby tylenol though. But it's bad for them and it doesn't work really well. If he is really that sore, go to the vet and ask for some pain killer, they should have some they can sell you.
