I put whisky in two ice cubes slots last night, for reasons I won't go into, and this morning the had not frozen. Given that they are mainly made of water, what is the problem here?

It will but at a much lower freezing point than water: -117C so you wont do it in your freezer!

the freezing point of alcohol is much lower that water I think it is about minus 20-30 obviously the more alcohol % in the drink the colder it must be to freeze. beer freezes before whisky or vodka.

It has a high freezing point than normal water. Water freezes at 0 degeres celcius, whisky is probably around -20....check google.

I don't know that whisky is made mostly of water. Typcially, it is 80 proof (40% Alc. by Volume) Alcohol's freezing point is -117C (compared to water's 0C). If you can find a comsumer freezer that gets that cold - I'll take one too!

No alcohol will freeze. Sometimes you'll see things like, malt drinks, say a Mike's Hard Lemonade, freeze because it has a much lower alcohol content. That's just a property of alcohol, I guess.

I believe it is the alcohol that stops it. Try making a jelly it sets in that. As does Vodka.

The alcohol content is too high! Don't try this with beer or wine, their content is too low and will make a mess...
