Easy. The holidays are coming. Tell him you wanted to call people and just see how they were doing as part of your good spirit for this time of the year. He was on the top of your list. He will be flattered. It is a perfectly plausible thing to do. Take it from there. Happy cuddling. :)

Just call and then tell him that u were just thinking and he came into your mind. And if U want t call him after all this time then u must like him more then a freiend it not that possible! Well just tell him what i typed and then ask him how has he been doing! and there u go!
