I have a tooth that is bothering me b/c it is a cavity. I need to get it pulled but I am terrified of dentist. What should I do? Does laughing gas make your mouth numb so that you can't fill whats going on?

I have 2 children and 1 on the way. The absolute worst pain I've ever been in was when I had nerve pain due to a horrible toothache. No joke. A normal toothache, no big deal but I don't think anything could be worse than nerve pain. ETA: I've never gone through labor without an epidural so I can't compare those 2.

Dentistry has come a long way in recent years. Talk to the dentist ahead of time and they will do everything they can to make you as comfortable as possible. Some will give you a tranquilizer to calm you down, the numbing process is painfree and you don't feel a thing while you're numb. I hadn't been to the dentist in 10 years. Fortunately, I only had one cavity. When the dentist filled it...it was like a miracle. I didn't feel anything. I had to tell him. Now, I go to the dentist every 6 months. No more dental pain and no more guilt about not going to the dentist.

I am petrified of the novocaine needle so I get gas. It makes you totally relax and gives you a slight numbness of your whole body that is very relaxing. You should not feel anything once your mouth has been numbed with novocaine, After the procedure the dentist will give you straight oxygen and the effects of the gas go away immediately, the novocaine numbness will still be there for a while. This is the best combination gas and novocaine for us chickens!!!!

Laughing gas makes you not care so much, the Novocaine makes you numb. If I were you and I had a place that would put me out I would use Anbesol (not sure how it's spelled but it works) for the pain till I could get put out. I went over a week using it until I could get an appointment.

Make an appointment with your dentist.

You could try using oil of cloves or oil of peppermint on the gum where it hurts. Or you can rub whiskey on the spot. Or go get some adult orajel.

Laughing gas numbs the nerves to your brain so you can't feel the pain until afterwards.

you don't need laughing gas. I had my teeth pulled with local injections. They had the teeth out before I knew it.I didn't feel anything until the novacain wore off. I took a few tylenol and yhe pain was gone.
