I am Canadian and now live in the US. My baby will be born in the States. I know she will be American but my question is, will she be recognized as Canadian as well when we go to Canada?

Though I'm not an expert with dual citizenship regarding Canada, I am an expert regarding dual citizenship with Europe. In this case paperwork is required to prove that a parent is a citizen, thus making the child a citizen, or at least able to travel freely with said parent. In regards to Europe you must fill out a form provided by the embassy and it is smooth sailing. I am pretty sure it should be the same with Canada, as America and Canada are so friendly.

If you are a legal immigrant in the USA, maybe the baby is American. I think that if you are a Canadian citizen and living in the USA temporary your new born is Canadian not American. I think that this have be challenge in the US courts because is not clear right now. You have a good day..

Yes you are Canadian but the baby will be American. Just speak with Canadian Immigration to get the ball rolling on her paperwork.

Your baby will be an American citizen by right of birth in the US, jus soli. She will also be a Canadian citizen by right of birth to a Canadian parent: jus sanguinis. Both countries allow dual citizenship. Please feel free to ignore anyone who tells you anything else about any of this.

Here are the official regulations governing her US citizenship.

You would have to ask Immigration in Canada. I know that some countries automatically give out dual citizenship but I do not know if one of them is Canada.

Your baby is born in the United States, so he/she will be an American Citizen, when you go to Canada, he will still be considered a U.S. Citizen...
