I have Ad-Aware SE Personal and Spy-bot, but have found that the best and fastest thing to use is Norton Spyware Scan on the Yahoo Tool Bar and AVG free from Grisoft.com. Have used all of these over two or three years and never discovered any other bad things with the first two. The firewall with Windows SP2 is also good. Before running the Spyware scan, I always go to Tools and Internet Options and remove cookies and temporary Internet files. Am also using Internet Explorer 6 with Yahoo and Windows Messengers 7.5. Will wait on IE7 until March.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition willl take away your adware for you. It works just like a virus scanner, only looking for adware. Just click the link below and download it. Make sure you update regularly, or the scanner will not pick up new adware.

Download an adware removal program. I use and would recommend Ad-Aware as it has always worked well for me. They have a personal version of it which is free for personal use and downloadable at their website: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

It's relatively easy to use and works well.
