It's called Unclaimed Baggage and there are several outlet stores primarily in Alabama. But before it goes to them each airlines has to try for 3 or 4 months to make effort to get belongings back to customer. Each airlines will store unclaim in their own specific locations. One will store luggage in Chicago, another airlines will store in Atlanta etc.. so u can call your favorite and ask customer service.
Owens Company South, which owns Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro and three similar outlets in Alabama- Albertsville, Decatur and Boaz. They buy it from your favorite airlines.
But I'm going to tell u two things to consider when u pack. First, have inside luggage tags with your contact info taped inside suitcase. I use space bags I put business cards inside my clothing bags too as well as sharpie marking ph & addy on each plastic bag. Copy of contact iternary is in each carryon, purse, luggage. So they know how to call me while on my trip. Valuables travel with me. I have photos so that if something goes missing, it can be retrieved. Usually, I'm only missing my bag 1 day, due to missed flight connection.
Airline employees stealing is a horse of another color. I also have equipment with identifiable ultraviolet ink... so u can retrieve laptops and software. If u ever go to Alabama and see what people pack OMG it's amazing!
google, yahoo, or ask.com put in search for unclaimed airline luggage lots of good articles... most recent article
