My mom is bi-polar. When I taught school, half my students were bi-polar. After I divorced, and started dating, half the men that I was involved , were bi-polar. Am I attracting bi-polar people to me, or is it just that there's alot more people with the condition?

It's possible that these people see that you can understand them and that there's something about you that 'gets it' or at least isn't as judge mental as the rest of the population that hasn't heard of bipolar disorder let alone knows that people with the disorder are not dangerous lunatics that should be avoided.

It's purely coincidence my dear.

There are approximately 2 million americans affected with this condition and is the 6th leading cause for disability world wide.

Bipolar disorder is a very complex condition that has many subclassification and is often misdiagnosed. Most mental health professionals use the DSM-IV-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) in diagnosing mental disorders and it's known that there are many problems with symptom accuracy, relevance, and reliability in making a diagnosis of bipolar disorder using the DSM-IV-TR. These problems all too often lead to misdiagnosis. The DSM V will likely address these diagnostic issues when published in 2011.

The behavioral manifestations of bipolar disorder are often not understood by patients nor recognized by mental health professionals, so people may suffer unnecessarily for many years (over 10 years, according to research conducted by bipolar disorders expert Nassir Ghaemi M.D.) before receiving proper treatment.

In conclusion, the treatment of the disorder is progressive. As mental health professionals learn more about the disorder and more information is available, more people are being properly diagnosed and treated.

Left untreated, bipolar disorder can be a disabling condition, but if treated properly, you can live a productive and healthy life.

Have these people been clinicaly diagnoised or are you making assumptions about people.

Of the U.S. population 1.6 percent have bipolar disorder at some point in life.

Bi-polar is a mood disorder involving manic episodes-intense and very disruptive experiences of heightened mood, possibly alternating with mafor depressive episodes.

We have to be careful not to make assumptions about others. I think teenagers sometimes act way out there and I think that is normal. Teenagers are up and down but then grow out of it. We all go through that.

If these people have been diagnosid then perhaps your character is attracting. I run karaoke and I have attracted alot of people to me and most of them dump their problems on me, because I will listen and give feed back. I have met people who live on their own, are on meds and are clients at the community mental health. My character attracts these people to me. They know that I will listen and not judge them.

As far as bi-polar being common it is not. I took the information out of my psy. book. 1.6 isn't alot.

Have you ever read anything about codependency? Read Codependent No More. With your mother having the bipolar, you really fit the bill on the codependency issue.
