first let me tell u the difference between our prayers one is "salah"prayer which muslims perform 5 times a day/and another prayer is "dua" in which muslims ask forgivness and any help they want wherever they r...
SALAH:-
1)FAJR PRAYER:it should be perform before sunrise...
2)zuhr paryer:it should be perform during the time before afternoon
3)asr prayer:it should be perform in afternoon...
4)maghrib prayer:evening prayer
5)isha prayer:after sunset....
OUR HOLY PROPHET MOHAMMED(SAW) SAYS"HE WHO DOES NOT PERFORM SALAH HAVE DONE "KUFR"(MEANS HE IS A NON-MUSLIM)"THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MUSLIMS AND NON-MUSLIMS IS SALAH ALSO
The Prophet said, "Likewise, minor sins of those who perform the five daily prayers are forgiven." [Some ignorant people, upon hearing this hadith, say, "Then, I will both perform namaz and amuse myself as I wish. My sins will be forgiven anyhow." This thought is not correct, because a namaz that is performed observing its conditions and adab and is accepted will cancel sins. In fact, even if minor sins are forgiven, continuing to commit or insisting on minor sins will become grave sins. And insisting on committing grave sins will cause kufr (disbelief.)] ..............ALSO WHEN WE PRAY FIVE TIMES A DAY WE REMEMBER OUR GOD ALMOST 24 HOURS...AND WE R AFRAID TO DO BAD DEEDS......

To Thomas Alva Edison many muslims don't pray regularly by the way. Do all christians go to church regularly
this is to give u a rought idea:
Fajr When the white thread peirces the night (I think it is defined such in the Quran)
Zahaur (when the sun is over the head)
Asr (the time inbetween noon n sunset)
Maghrib (time of sunset)
Esha (between sunset n midnight)
there r many reasons for 5 times prayer a day. Times between Esha n Fajr r very blessed. So is the time between Asr n Maghrib.
one reason for 5 times of prayers a day also teaches us punctuality. because if we get late there is penalty.
Before praying, we have to do wodoo. It is almost half a bath. So it teaches us cleaness n purity
when we pray 5 times a day, we remember Allah. We remember that one day, we will be asked of our deeds. 5 Times prayers also helps us to get our sins forgiven. Because the prayers recited while prostrating, bowing, standing up.... such as Surah Al-Fatiha are themselves prayers asking of forgiveness n praising Allah.
If u know how the Muslims pray, u will also realise that prayers r like mild excercise. (if u go into Ahadith books, u will see that Islam has a device that redueces n mostly prevents obesity)
When we pray 5 times a day, it gives us a sort of unity n strenght. Though all muslims over the world do not pray at the same time (time zones differ remember) we pray in only one directions, with the same words. Remembering Allah in the same way...... all over the world.

Yes it is 5 times a day.
1- Before sunrise.
2- Few minutes after midday.
3- Mid-afternoon, after midday and before sunset.
4- Few minutes after sunset.
5- About 60-90 minutes after sunset.
If any true Muslim dose his prayer in time, he has no time for evil thinking and his prayer should remind him that Allah , the Creator, is watching him , and Allah can see a man's thoughts, so we should even avoid evil or bad thoughts.
The 5 times prayer keeps to be a reminder for a Muslim to be a good Human with all his surroundings.
Moreover, prayer is a way of thanking Allah for creating us and that we surrender to Allah as HIS obedient slaves without hesitation.

There are many types of prayers in Islam but the ones you are referring to are the obligatory ones. Every prayer is almost the same, for example the one called Fajr prayer which is done in the morning takes about 4 minutes while the other ones take about 10 minutes. These prayers do consist of the same basic Surahs from the Qur'an.. such as Surah Al-Fatihah, but there are others Surahs to be recited in a prayer which a Muslim may choose...and that effects the duration of the prayer.
Prayers are done for a number of reasons. To please and praise God, to thank Him, to ask for His guidance, to ask for His forgiveness, to strengthen our iman (faith), etc. Praying is actually done to benefit ourselves because God the All-Mighty and All-Sufficient does not need our prayers!
To be simple, the act of praying is actually about establishing a link between ourselves and God so that we are constantly reminded of what is important to us... pleasing God by carrying out good deeds, etc. as otherwise we'd always be thinking of things that are relatively less significant.. such as the material things in this life.

Considering there are no such things as gods, it is quite entertaining watching deluded superstitionists waste so much of the little time they have in this short life, prostrating themselves in an effort to win favor from a god that is made-up so that they can, after they die, go to a place that doesn't exist. All rather silly, isn't it?

Regarding muslim prayer(called salaat in Arabic), there is a basic method of doing it. It involves standing, bowing, prostrating, sitting in a particular order. During standing Quran chapter fathiha(first chapter of Quran with 7 verses) has to be recited and optionally also any other part of Quran. During other positions, God is praised in various wordings. In the final sitting before prayer end, there is a prayer for prophet, for us and all the good devotees of God. There is also a special prayer to bless prophet mohammed and his people like God blessed prophet Abraham and his people.
This salaat prayer has to be performed 5 times a day, that is one before sun rise, one after midday, one in the evening, one after sunset and last one in the night. These prays can be perfomed individually or as a group, where one person(the imam) will be leading the rest. Group prayers are usually performed in mosque. The Mid prayer during Friday is to be performed as group in mosque. This is obligatory for all muslim males and optional for women. A speech is delivered before the Friday prayer.

long story about the origin of how many prayers muslims are to pray.. originally we were to pray many more, but supposedly there is a long story about Mohammed talking to the angel Gabrial and getting the prayer number down to 5 due to the hectic days and workload we normally have as humans.. But as for the specific prayers. each one doesnt have a specific meaning. its just required to pray 5 times a day.. .. Now there are types of prayers, like funeral prayers.. Eid (holiday) prayers.. prayers for the sick etc.. but thats in addition to the normal 5 daily prayers.. Prayer in general is just to keep you reminded of your creator and keep you in constant state of humility and to not forget...that way if you know you have a prayer coming up in an hour, you wont be tempted to do something wrong within that hour, or go out and get drunk.. heaven forbid you go prayer after an hour of drinking.. So they are spaced just so to keep you in line.. Maybe someone else could elaborate a bit more on it.

5 x 30 = 150 150 x 12 = 1800 1800 x all the muslims in the world.
But allah is deaf = Isrial is killing a muslim per day. And sadam has killed hundreds , so many of them will die on sadam's trial day. plus they need loud speakers to call the followers.
enjoy.

the importance of prayer is to thank and Praise God for every thing he has given us. whether we like them or not we appreciate them.
we believe that any thing happens to you is from God, we may not know what the reason for it is, but we have faith in God's wisdom and the choices he makes for his pious servants.
one could be blind, def, mute or paralyzed and still thanks God.
rich or poor but still thanks God.
sick or healthy but still thanks God.
so we pray to praise him for every thing
