You are not alone!!! I've had it for over 35 years and sometimes it does push you to the edge. Some days are better than others but at times I simply have to keep myself busy, go to the gym, walk, bike. Tinnitus gives a whole new meaning to the notion of quiet time by yourself... I have hearing loss both ears and have tried hearing aids, stopped using them a couple years ago. Simply seems to amplify the ringing... Just remember, you are not alone with this problem...

"Coping" is the right word. My wife has suffered from tinnitus for years and our investigations have led to no definitive conclusions. The ringing varies, with some days not too bad and others driving her crazy. It's one of those "invisible" problems; that is, no one can see that you have an illness, you look perfectly normal, but inside you are suffering.
Our reading has uncovered this info:
One approach is to cover up the noise with a "masker", a device that's worn in the ear and emits a white noise sound that covers up the ringing. I don't know that these devices have had a high success rate, and may be hard to find. A hearing specialist in your area may be helpful in that regard.
Avoiding loud noises, nicotine, aspirin,, caffeine, and alcohol may help, since these have been found to aggravate tinnitus. Biofeedback, massage, acupuncture, and hypnosis have been tried, but the results have been mixed.
There have been studies of Ginkgo biloba extract that have shown some promise. One such study group took 40 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day for three months and reported a significant reduction. It's a reasonbly inexpensive endeavor, so may be worth a try.
Vitamins A and E in combination, B12, zinc, glutamic acid, ipriflavone, periwinkle have been suggested but there is no evidence as yet that they work. Some people use Melatonin as a sleep aid, although it has no direct effect on the tinnitus.

It's a nasty little problem, and you'll have to experiment some to see what may work for you. I would suggest first trying the Ginkgo biloba for three months and see if you get any relief. It has shown some promise.

I have had tinnitus for over 1 1/2 yrs. I feel the same way. The days that the ringing is loud and I am at work I feel like quiting. The customers and co-workers loud voices has been getting more irritating than I can stand. I just have to walk away if I can.

I was going off one antidepressant and getting on another, while having a massive sinus infection about 2 years ago and I have it bad too. That is where it all started. IT will NOT go away, Been to the doctors like you and they can't find anything wrong. I just live it . It is tough sometimes though.Good luck.

Yep, my husband has it. He finds what makes his worse is if he has been listening to loud music or been somewhere noisy. You must find it sooo frustrating! Is there a time when you notice that it is not as bad? Try to note why you think this may be.
