Yes,infectious diseases, such as SARS and AIDS, are a more serious global problem than in the past because:
* urban populations are growing, thereby increasing opportunities for person-to-person transmittal of these diseases
* people are more prone to be in contact with animals that may pass on zoonotic diseases
* public health services may not be equipped to deal with some infectious outbreaks
Proper personal hygiene helps a lot in the decrease of the spread of the diseases. Not only these, each individual should be aware of the means of transmission of disease so each would avoid the spread.

Humans are responsible for some of their own diseases by being too clean.
Nature had provided us with a natural defense on our skin. Now people have become too clean and have washed the natural defenses away and the body can no longer fight off the common bugs that attack and become dangerous.
Plain old soap and water is a bactericide..
Now it seems everything you buy has a chemical bactericide in it once again causing the body to be unable to naturally fight any infection that it may come in contact with.

I know that taking antibiotics too often weakens
your natural immune system. Very often good nutrition is the biggest helper in fending off diseases. That means ingesting less pesticides, eating more fresh (well washed) fruits and vegetables to help keep the immune system functionally optimally.

I remember hearing that AIDS came about because a human had sexual intercourse with a monkey. Good luck looking that one up!
