Get a Nikon D50. There is no delay between pictures at all and no delay between the time you press the btton and the camera takes the picture. It has a few "consumer friendly" automatic modes that make it very easy to use, but still offers total photographic control when you are ready to take charge. The "kit" lens is a decent lens optically, so it is a good place to start for your stated purposes. When you are ready to add lenses, the sky is the limit with Nikon.

Get a 1 GB memory card, such as the Sandisk "Ultra" for decent write speed. You can get these in the $35 range, after rebates.

Circuit City has it for $700, with the lens.

Walmart has it for $660.

I own a Nikon D50, D70s, D200 and a few Nikon Point and Shoot cameras. It's ridiculous......

I have several cameras both digital and film - Canon, Kodak, Argus, Minolta and I have used several other brands. The cameras I own cover the range from a very old range finder, point and shooters and SLR's. I still use all of them regularly.

If I understand your question correctly you are looking for a camera that powers on quickly, has a high shutter speed and is capable of taking more than 1 shot per second. The best solution is a digital SLR although it is also the most expensive approach. Next best would be a higher end Prosumer point and shoot like a Canon Powershot.

The top 3 companies in camera sales are Canon #1, Sony #2 and Kodak #3. Although Canon and Sony have been pretty close, the gap is about to widen in Canon's favour as more buyers move to DSLR's and away from the Prosumers. The reason is price and capability. Many DSLR's are less expensive now and have far more capabilty than the Prosumers.

To solve your problem I'd look at a Canon DSLR.

you need to go pro-consumer SLR to do it right the cannon rebel is one of the most popular but skip the first gen 300D cannon rebel as it had a unacceptable delay for a true SLR camera the latest Rebel offer a 10.1 Mega pixel plus many other upgraded features and is worth looking at however if on a budget you might want to grab the 350D rebel which is just now being discontinued so should have some sweet pricing soon but if not the 400D got a lot of pro features added including for the first time dust reduction but for 900 bucks including a lens you can not do better and can take photos at 3 per second for up to 27 jpg in a burst mode in action shooting Burst mode is very important as well as the ability to take the picture when you press the button not a sec or two as is the rule in point and shoot cameras

Bought Cybershot DSC-H2 on Nov 1; still learning the camera. Still learning digital after sort of mastering 35mm with a Nikon for past 35 yrs. Digital seems like a whole new ballgame.

I like using the Sony Cybershot with 6.0 megapixels.
The buttons and menu options are easy to navigate. There are many choices for resolution, lighting and picture size.
Like many other digital cameras, the Sony Cybershot can also take video, uses two AA batteries, memory stick, and has a wide angle lense.

Check it out and compare it with other digital cameras others may recommend:)

if you want to take FAST pictuers on a digital camera you are going to have to go with a Digital SLR. i have had a Canon Digital reblel EOS for a couple of years now and its great. it takes amazing picture ant the new model has an option for taking up to 14 burst shots in a row at 3 shots per second.

hey there...

the best brand of digital cameras r these:
1 - Sony
2 - Canon
3 - Nikon
4 - Olympus

but i'd recommend either SONY or CANON... coz they could b found everywhere & have good prices & after sale services...

also... they're so easy 2 use, & have everything packed with them... & the computer software is cool!

as 4 me... i own a "SONY DSC-S40" digital camera... great thing & so reliable (though alot of newer models r around these days)... but my camera is 1 of the best as far 2 me! :)

Fast Pictures?
It depends upon the budget but if you really like to take several pictures in one second then go for the SLR cameras, and in SLRs I would reccomend NIKON D50 which is the cheapest and easy to use and give a very good quality pictures.
