My daughter was under a shop awning in a violent lightning storm. She was talking to me on her mobile. The connection was cut and when i rang a few seconds later she seemed strange? She said her heart was racing and she felt like she had been shot. A neighbour drove her home. She said she felt weird and her hands and feet were tingling and her feet were itchy. Her ears were ringing and her whole body, especially her back, was aching. Heres the freaky bit... her vision had always been bad in one eye. This had been explained by ophthamologists as either damage cause by her rapid birth or the effects of FAS. However, she said everything looked different inside her house. She said the furniture appears 'brighter and bigger'... and when she put her glasses on they made her vision blurry. Anyone got any ideas as i cannot find anything re: this on the internet. And should she be checked over by a doctor? She is a nurse and said no way will she go to a Dr as she said she feels great! Thanks.

If she doesn't continue to have physical symptoms, a doctor might not be necessary; however, she ought to have at least an optical exam to determine what has happened to her visual acuity. An ophthalmologist would be ideal; the change could be temporary or permanent and there could be slow-acting long term effects related to the change.

If she refuses to see a doctor, tell her to at least monitor her own vital signs--blood pressure, electrolyte balance (since it sounds like the effect caused some sort of nerve response), things like that--just tell her to be aware of any changes in her body's functioning. Since you say it happened over 6 months ago, I'd say anything major should have shown itself, but it isn't a bad idea to compare one's vital signs now to those before the incident, just in case an unknown or insidious condition has been set in motion by the incident, which obviously had some profound effects.

P.S. I just now thought you might have meant 11/4/06, which would be today--if that's the case, then certainly close monitoring for any effects would be in order. Sorry about the confusion--I wasn't sure which day you meant.

Reminds me of the movie Cocoon where the old people get rejuvenated in the swimming pool & turns into a fountain of youth. But the cocoons are aliens who have come back for them.
Great movie! I don't blame her for not going to the Drs.
Try searching for the old guy that holds the record for # of times being struck by lighting & living and see if theres any info of symptions after he was struck.

Close enough to get knocked on my butt .... I went back a few days later and a friend and I dug up the glass tub the lightening produces when it strikes the ground ... we only got about 2 feet of it. Very kewl to look at .. it fuses the sand and dirt together into a hollow small thin glass tube.
