In hide site you should have been telling them all along that it could and probably would happen. Maybe you did. I told my GF the minute I found out. Just sit you spouse down first and tell them. If you have kids your spouse doesn't need to be surprised in front of them. As far as everyone goes. Tell them and then tell them as much as you can or are allowed to. They have a right to know. Make sure your company/unit has a FRG and that your family is involved with it. I've been to Iraq and I'm in Afghanistan now. I send pictures home as much as possible. And get pictures back. Call when you can. Write and email as often as possible. Make sure they know there might be times when you can't call or email and not to worry. Tell them to stay busy. Good luck.

Duty in Iraq is no where near as bad as the news media makes it out to be. The first thing you can do is become informed about duty in Iraq, because I am sure your family has reservations about you being there. The more you can tell them about Iraq duty, the more assured they will feel that you are not just the "cannon fodder" that some politicians make you out to be.

Tell them immediately so they can start planning. They will need to find a lot to do to keep busy. Also look up support groups and give them the info. Is it your wife/husband and children? If so they will need time to get used to the idea, and explain to the children what is happening. If you have children, record some stories or messages before you go so the kids can listen to them say every Friday at 6:00 or what ever. You can even do that for your mom or whoever. Good Luck and thanks for all you do.

I 'd get together with them if that's possible and tell them face to face. It's hard sometimes doing this over the phone lines. But if your in a situation where you must use the phone then I'd just tell them straight out. Good luck to you ;o)

Invite them over for a nice family dinner and then break the news to them. You get to be together at the same time enjoying a nice dinner before you tell them.
Best of luck and thanks for having the courage to serve our country.

you say George W is about to put your son into danger because ether arnt any WMD where he said they were, and after serval years we still only control a dozen blocks of Baghdad. every one hates us because we invaded their country and killed more people than their evil dictator did, we let in Islamic extremists who kill them , we have given them less water, less sewerage and destroyed their economy and top of that we have alienated our former allies
mom I might die for nothing , in our new Vietnam
