I am really frustrated because I have been living with attention deficit disorder all of my life and don't know if I'll ever get treated. I am so scared that no matter what I say, no one is ever going to help me because of their personal opinion.
I don't know what to do, should I contact the board of medicine in my state to dispute what I think about my disorder.
If I am never treated correctly, what am I suppose to do?
Could someone please help me!

First of all is your doctor a psychiatrist? If so he's NOT doing his damn job! He's worried that you're going to become a liability with the medication. That's bad medicine, and you shouldn't pay him/her. The board of medicine probably will piss you off by siding with the doctor.
First order of business: find a psychiatrist who will treat you, even if it means taking a road trip. There are plenty out there who will. Also don't be afraid to walk out on and not pay a psychiatrist who is reluctant to help you.

Knowing you have it is a major step to treatment whether you have medical diagnosis or not. A great deal of the symptoms can be controlled without medication. Reprogramming yourself and fighting the distractions in order to remain focused gets easier as you continue to do so. Diet is a huge contributor. Stay away from preservatives (primarily MSG) mostly found in prefabricated foods. Red die in food is prone to aggravate ADD. Avoid the sugar and caffeine in soft drinks.

There are a lot of books out there that will help you a lot! Before you spend more money on an medical doctor or a psychiatrist for a 2nd opinion, look for someone (a doctor) that provides bio-feedback therapy. This will diagnose and successfully treat ADD & ADHD for a cure without the need for medication for the rest of your life. Good luck to you.

One of the problems now facing this issue is that doctors are now realizing that adhd has been over diagnosed . Findings now show that only one in 4 previously diagnosed actually have adhd . A general practitioner is not one to rely on for specific testing for adhd . Ask for testing by a professional in the field and then if they say no you don't have it , it's likely you may not . This is not to say you don't suffer some sort of difficulty for which a solution needs to be found . You may have a cognitive dysfunction or problems with motor skills which are found with many adhd patients but in and of their selves do not warrant the diagnosis of adhd. My advice is speak with a Psychologist about your difficulties , don't rely on the diagnosis of only a general practitioner . Perhaps speak to a different Psychologist and this time don't mention adhd prior to the doctors diagnosis and see if you get a different answer to your suspicions of your problems . I agree that if you feel you have a problem then it should be addressed and explained to you better and it doesn't seem you have been given this adequately. Good luck to you on this , I wish you well !

I agree with Mandy. Get a second, third or fourth opinion! If you don't like what your doctor says, FIRE them! Go to another town if you have to.
