when I first had the pain in my shoulder, I didn't connect the two.. later a friend of mine that is a nurse advised me that it is in fact connected to my carpal tunnel problems. She suggested I buy wrist braces, not too flexible, to use until I am ready for surgery. Which I am pretty scared of to say the least, but working on computers as much as I do, I have problems sleeping at night due to the pain in my wrists, now it has moved to encompass my shoulder as well.. You should really see your doctor, I know I'm not really one to talk, but with two kids, a husband and working 50-60hrs a week.. no time for that. I hope all goes well for you.

Yes. Fourteen years ago I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand (I was a newspaper reporter and I typed almost continually.) The pain was in my hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder and even went into my back and chest. My doctor told me that all these ligaments and tendons are connected and when one part of your body is affected, when it gets severe, everything else is affected. Unfortunately, I started depending on my right hand because my left hurt that I got carpal tunnel in that wrist, although not as severe. I had to change jobs.
The pain can be excruitating, because it can either be a sharp pain or just a really dull ache. The best thing to take is Aleve if you can tolerate it and use warm pads to relieve the pain. I have found my pain is especially bad in the winter or when I am doing the activities that cause the repetitive motion illness.
Good luck!

You may be dealing with two different repetitive strain injuries that were both caused by extensive computer work or so.
The shoulder pain could come from the mouse being too far out due to the width of your keyboard. Check out the Evoluent Mouse-Friendly Keyboard or the Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboard.
In general we should all
* Make sure that we have an Ergonomic Workplace Setup (http://www.ergonomictimes.com/computer_ergonomics_info.php).
* Improve our Mousing and Typing Techniques (http://www.ergonomictimes.com/mousing_typing_techniques.php)
* Take stretch breaks! This will help to prevent Repetitive Strain Injuries such as Carpal Tunnel and circulatory problems.
You can find more info on the above at http://www.ergonomictimes.com

It is pressure on the nerve as it passes through a small gap in the bones of the wrist, known as the carpal tunnel. A lot of the pressure is due to the posture of the wrist ,do you wear the brace at night? During the day you are moving and the posture and stress on your wrist is changing but at night in bed it is still,in one position and the symptoms are apparent.I presume that in the night if you move and change position the pain improves. My father in law suffered from this.He attended the Rheumatology clinic at the London hospital and had an injection in one wrist and had no more problems for some considerable time.

I had a patient with pain in arm and shoulder and no noticeable pain in wrist. I referred her to a neurosurgeon who diagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist causing symptoms like tingling, numbness, night time wakening, pain, coldness, and sometimes weakness in parts of the hand.
