World-wide? I think it continues to increase, but the rate of acceleration may have declined somewhat. That's darn small comfort, I'm sure.

Population increase has two main factors: birth control and death control. As we get better health care and nutrition, as the baby boomers (that's me, folks!) mature, the death control part has been pushed back and back. Birth control, on the other hand, spreads only slowly. It is almost entirely available to anyone who wants it in the developed countries, but either taboo or simply unknown in a lot of third-world countries.

Of course, the other form of death control is war . . .
