You have three different subjects going here. On the video side, your DVD player has one composite video output (Yellow), and your TV has component video inputs (Pb Pr Y- think blue, red & green as separate inputs- its a better picture than with composite video).

Next, your 5.1 DVD player probably has a digital audio output, either with a coax or with a fiber connector. This output would be sent to a home stereo receiver that can process Dolby 5.1 audio separation.

Lastly, you are asking about DVD functions that don't work. Sometimes these are limited by the DVD itself. Try another one. Sometimes a cheaper player from China, Taiwan or Korea will not have all of the functions enabled. Not much you can do there.\

Good luck!

The use of functions on the DVD player has nothing to do with what input you are using. If you are using red, yellow and white, make sure these are plugged into the corresponding color jacks on your TV. If you are getting a picture and sound at all, then these are hooked up ok.

The component video will improve the picture quality by
separating the 3 major colors. See the link to Wikipedia
for more details on component video.

Your DVD player should have these connections as well
and if they do, then get 3 interconnects and connect them
all together. You won't need the regular (yellow) video con-
nection, but you will still need to connect the L and R audio
connections to get sound.
