Shy? Even still, you should just go up to him and say "Hi".

Now if that is too painful, you could try it in an indirect way. If he's reading something, instead of "confronting him" with a "Hi", look at waht he's reading and if ONLY if it is interesting or you'd like to know more about it, say something like, "That's interesting. What's it all about", or "That's interesting, I didn't know you were into the islands off of the Australian coast" (or whatever).

As a last resort if you can't bring yourself to say anything to him, just smile and flirt with him by looking at him, looking away and looking back at him. That should get him to come over to you.

i would say there is no way to get their attention really.. its all about who they are. alot of guys.. their "attention" is alllllll vanity. Like a girls boobs, or @ss or thighs or somethin.. some guys arent like that. they like brains or a fighter, someone who can rule them, not someone who they can rule.
