My fiance and I are thinking of doing this.... We are fed up with the boring old routine of life - we both have good jobs, but not enjoying them really. We would love to pack everything up, buy a big hymer and go anywhere we like - advice from anyone who has done it very gratefully received

Yep! I did just that . I gave up my job, sold my house, totally freaked out my mother! and had a great time. Had to work around Europe a fair bit, just watch the Greeks, Spanish were great. Italy is expensive so drive through as quickly as you can also its a dodgey country to sleep on the side of the road in. At this time of year the French and Spanish authorities turn a blind eye to campers on beaches but you would get moved on in the spring. One very important tip! = DONT meet up with family and friends on holiday because they will have lots of spends and you wont, but they will still expect you to eat out with them ect. We wiped out a lot of our budget this way, but you learn. Also keep away from tourist spots and eat where locals eat, usually half price. We had a great time in our camper but found fuel a bit of a drain. If I was to do it again I would probably buy a round the world ticket. Anyway go luck and go for it. Listen to your heart, life is to short to be doing things that you dont like doing. let me know how you get on ,somehow!

I did it when I was 28. Needed new challenge but didn't know what (career wise) so finished with boy friend who didn't want to come with me, gave up my job which I loved but was bored with and rented out flat for (initially) 12 months. Got 12 month visa for Oz and visited Hong Kong, Singapore and Malyasia on the way Best experience of my life. Australia is beautiful and varied and the people you meet are fantastic - both Aussies and other backpackers. Did temping work in Sydney for 3 months then moved on to Melbourne, Tasmania, Adelaide and Perth. Worked 4 months in Perth and headed up west coast. After 12 months in Oz i had 6 months in New Zealand
Went initially with a friend but we went separate ways after a while and although I was travelling alone was never alone for more than a day - always met someone 'going your way' maybe knew them just for that day, some a week and some I am still in touch with 8 years later ( I even married one of them from New Zealand and brought him home to UK with me)
Some of the best stuff :-
Working to live not living to work
Sleeping under the stars in the outback (so many of them),
Tasmania - Fracynet Penisula, Hobart, Cradle Mountain
The train across the nullabor (wild camels out the window and not much else)
Kangaroo Island - diving, remarkable rocks, seals, penguins, koalas, kangaroos
Sydney (goes without saying) and the Blue Mountains
Kakadu National Park - look like Eden must have
Helicoper ride over the Bungle Bungles
Camel ride on cable beach at Broome
Margret river for surfing/ wine

Do it, there's no way you can regret it

(Unless you name is Joanne Lees, of course)

You have enough good answers, but can't help but toss in mine.
I sold everything I owned (or gave it away) and packed my life in 2 suitcases and came alone, 10,000 miles to the middle east. (Just to meet my Yahoo boyfriend of 4 years) Well... we married and I'm here now almost one year. I have been to UAE, Egypt and live in Kuwait. I don't regret it for a minute.
It was spiritual to separate my life of 53 years in the U.S. and leave a comfortable life and come to the unknown, especially without alot of financial security. I can confidently say to both of you, "Do those things that make you feel happy and alive". I have less in material ways, but am a richer person for having come so far around the world. I am grateful, that I have my true love and learned how to "fly" with my heart. Best of luck and have fun!

I finished uni and now my job is as a esl teacher. I get the best of both worlds. Earn money see the world. Some places the moneys good some not but it doesn't matter coz you can always move on after your contract if you need anything. Look into it theres loads of things out there and you'll love it!

I've given up everything and moved to Japan to teach English! I can't afford to stop working so I can travel all over. Being here has given me the chance to explore Japan and other Asian countries while I am on vacation. I have had the best time of my life.

Good luck. You should do this! Live your dream.

Yes, I did - for 9 months and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone!

My advice would be to make sure you save up lots of money so that you do not have to rely on finding work - just in case you don't! Honestly, it's no fun if you have to live on 5p noodles and I met lots of people on my travels in that situation.

Try asking your employers if you can go on sabbatical leave, whereby your job stays open to you - some employers do this for up to 2 years.

If not, make sure you have somewhere to store your stuff or sell it and make sure you have someone who will take you in on your return until you get jobs, home etc. when you get back.

Do not be over trusting of people you meet on your travels, some of them are thieves and con artists and drug planters!

Sort out your finances into a good bank account that you can get money out abroad for as little as possible (e.g. nationwide have free cash withdrawls) and can do internet banking.

Good luck!

Have fun, and check on the visa requirements on where you want to go before you get there....

Take all the shots also.... you need them....

I do admire him and that i'm no longer bashing him. i'm in basic terms declaring some thing thjat occurred. What occurred replaced right into a guy who had severe head injuries from his occupation and wasn't interior the splendid state of concepts and did some thing "loopy" (for loss of a extra helpful term). in spite of the reality that, his movements costed his very own existence and his son and spouse's existence and for that, i've got discovered to quit attempting to guard him using fact,as large of a wrestler he replaced into, that would not substitute the reality that he murdered to people, like it or no longer. Do i think of he had to do it, no. yet I nevertheless can no longer have faith people bag on Mr.McMahon a lot. you're asking him to throw away his attractiveness as a company guy to, what the idiotic media calls it, "glorify a murderer". it incredibly is lots to invite of a guy. you attempt being in his problem. it incredibly is incredibly common to assert you will possibly yet maximum probable you in all probability does no longer. returned, i like Benoit as a wrestler and as a individual yet that would not propose i'm letting my self be blinded by capacity of his wrestling skills to understand what he did. BQ: Concussions from wrestling. He did alot of head butts, whose to assert alot of those did no longer hit for genuine. additionally, some wrestlers take steroids to help with well being situations. That does sometime make contributions. i think of after he realised what he did, he had gotten to a calmer state of concepts and realised that what he did replaced into incorrect so, as punishment, he killed himself

It would be more fun if you travelled around on transport that isn't your own!! Then it gives more of a sense of adventure etc.!

Use trains and buses, trams etc.!

Just have fun and try not to get lost!
