I have an 8 month old rotty who is loving and soft but just the last few days she's been tormenting my 2year old male westie(he's been fixed). I was wonderng if it was because she about to come into season? She's not bored because they get walked twice a day for a couple of hours a time.

Gee some people are so botherd about using the correct terms they cant just answer a simple question. I said dog because if i say ***** answers will probably pull the question and i said periods so everyone knew what i ment, not just you mega expert know it alls out there. And i'm not getting my dog done because i dont want to just yet and i live in an area were she cant come into contact with another dog without my wanting her to. So stop all the sarcasm just because you want us all to know your better than us.

Dogs don't have periods. Most will bleed a little when they're in heat, but it's completely different. She's at about the right age to start her heat cycles, so this is likely. I know you saif you don't want to get her spayed yet, but I highly reccommend it if she's not going to be used for breeding. She does not need to have puppies first, they will do just fine without. Also, if you do it at a younger age, she'll have an easier time with the anesthesia, rather than waiting until she's older and has problems to do it. Spaying can help prevent so many problems in female dogs. Just last month we had a 13 YO unspayed golden with a ruptured mammary tumor, took out the tumor and spayed her (also has cysts on the ovaries, saw that when we took it out) and you wouldn't believe how much better she looks and acts.

She could be coming into season now.

I am surprised that you own a b**ch and do not know something as basic as when do they come into season. Get yourself a good book about the breed and find out what signs you should be looking for, both physical and behavioural and what precautions you should take to ensure that she does not get out and end up pregnant.

Dogs are not menstruating when they 'come into season' - they are ovulating. This is the time that they are fertile and there is only a couple of days during their season when they are ready to be mated.

You should also consider having a talk with your Vet about the best time to have her spayed. Some prefer to do the operation before the b**ch comes into season; some prefer her to have one season.

I presume that you will not be breeding from her as you obviously have little or no knowledge about the canine reproductive system. Breeding dogs is best left to experts who know what they are doing and not to back street breeders.

the westie is fixed=de-gendered=not a reason for a female to be attracted because she is in heat
