As parents, we love our children and want to do the best for them, however, the pressures of living every day create stress and distractions for all of us.
My suggestions? Talk to your children, make time to do something special with them to make them feel special. All children want to be valued. They want your attention and your focus without any distractions. They want to feel loved, and make you proud.
In my experience raising my two daughters- is respect is most important, you don't yell at someone you respect, you don't demean someone you respect and in return they respect you. Your job as a parent is to help your child, place boundaries on what is acceptable behavior and what is unacceptable and guide -not control your child. Children don't learn by their mistakes if you don't allow room for them. Mistakes are experience -if you learn from them and so will they. Be there for the hurt and disappointments with a shoulder to cry on, arms to hold them and ears to listen, they don’t need to hear "I told you so” just that you love and accept them.
Punish them as needed but in a rational calm manner so it is a punishment- not abuse or demeaning. Mainly it's just a matter of know when to be there and knowing when to pull back and let them have space. Just like any other healthy relationship.
Realize we do the best we can with what we are given, everyone makes mistakes with their kids, you can learn from them and move on, or beat yourself up over it, children are resilient -they tend to get over thing easier than we adults do. Just by your questions and concerns I can see a good mother who wants what’s best for her child- that’s the best foundation you can start with, stop worrying -you'll be ok.

The Golden Rule works very well for raising children: treat them the way that you, if you were that age, would like to be treated. Of course, that doesn't mean spoiling them with food and toys; it means genuine love, and gentle discipline that explains rather than punishes.
Like, "We don't throw rocks at dogs because rocks hurts them, and it's not kind to hurt things just because you can. See? We pet dogs gently and give them clean water and good food. Then they are happy and love us. Isn't that better? You are a very kind boy. I'm so proud to know you."
