Lemon juice ! cut a lemon in half and squeeze into a glass, use it for a drink or in cooking. Sit at the table with your elbows in squeezed lemon halves for about 15-20 mins. Rub them over your knees too, be careful in underarm areas for sensitivity. Exfoliating either with a product or baby oil and sugar mixed to a paste brightens skin considerably, you can do this on your face too !

For reducing dark patches on joints and underarms u can apply lemon juice, leave it for 15 minutes and wash off. Do this either daily or atleast thrice a week. For elbows u can also bend ur arms and place them on half cut lemons for 10-15 minutes, this is really gonna help. Avoid on cuts and bruises.

Exfoliate these areas with a good body scrub several times a week. Use a loofa or a textured shower scrunchy when bathing to help remove dead skin cells. Then moisturize well. Look for deodorants that have moisturizer in them. Should only take a few weeks to have healthy looking skin again.

Avon has a terrific product called Skin So Soft. It's an oil which quickly evaporates an d smells wonderful. Apply it to those areas and in no time the ashen look will disappear.

Use pumice stones (available in cosmetics sections of stores) to remove dead skin cells (but don't use on underarms). Apply almond oil or other natural oil to the skin after debrading it.
Underarm skin is highly delicate and any chemicals applied or skin debredement could harm it; I'd leave it alone.
Suggest you use unscented deodorants/antiperspirants or natural ones that don't have chemicals in them.

There is a cream by Decleor that will brighten/whited skin. However if you use a good body scrub in the bath or shower and then a good moisturiser, it should help a lot.

Slice the largest possible size of a cucumber , spread paracetamol powder on it and apply for up to three or four hours every evening.
to apply use a plastic bag cut to keep the cucumber humid, and tape it on the elbow.
It will clear the pigmentation.
