I'll tell you a secret: because Reid and Tony Blair want to win ELECTION. Afterwards, they'll change it.
Anyway, in most cases romanian citizen proves that they are professionals in their jobs.
UK became member of the European Union in 1973. EU citizenship gives you the right to travel freely within the Union (provided you carry a passport or identity card) and to settle anywhere within the Union’s territory.
To live and work in any EU country they choose is one of fundamental rights guaranteed of the Union.
Therefore, UK respect this right.

The trade unions have fought over the years to maintain an adequate pay structure for the working class. Unfortunately, the introduction of multiculturalism and ethnic cleansing policies by Labour Liberal and now the Conservative party have lead to major changes in working class attitudes. Working class people have become complacent with there lot and have tolerated the changes made over the years. The problem is that for the first time people can see that the out come of this mass immigration is leading to a demise in the English population. Cheap Labour is keeping wages of the English down and causing the English to become poorer and poorer (polish plumbers). Schools are being over run with immigrant intake (pass a school and look at the children). If Black people think themselves lucky to be here wait till the Romanians and Bulgarians get here they are as racialist as they come and will get the same rights including race relations and positive discrimination. The Unions especially Derk Simpson (Amicus) appear to be sucking up to Blair and welcoming the new intake into the union. Not one word being said by the members instructing simpson to speak out or get out

Firstly, there was no EU in 1973, it was the EEC (European economic community) and this insane idea of being able to settle wherever you want is a recent development. Okay we have the polish but that should be it. Why do we need more, especially after the governments lies of "it'll be 12,000 people a year entering england". Yea right! it was 600,000 in two years and rising. And the cultural differences, i have been to romania and the crimewave that will engulf the major cities will be beyond anything our police can control. Things over there work differently than they do here. The countries are run by mafias, the governments are practically redundant and curruption is rampant. I wish these liberals would wake up! Maybe they will when their getting mugged at knife point by a friendly romanian.

When Spanish and Portuguese workers suddenly had the right to work here it was predicted there would huge numbers arriving, but in fact the numbers were quite small.
So, when Polish Czech etc. workers got the right to come here a similar pattern was (reasonably I think) expected. This proved wrong and instead of a few tens of thousands hundreds of thousands turned up.
This has proved a considerable strain on out education and social services.
Additionally, as you can see from reading some of the other answers to your question, there is a considerable feeling against large numbers of foreign workers arriving suddenly, and politicians, being politicians, must take account of this.
The fact that most of the foreign workers take jobs that the unemployed in Britain won't accept, the fact that they pay tax and National Insurance which they will leave here, for most of them will go back home, is all meaningless to people who grudge anybody a job who is not British.
It is made all the more piquant if one suspects that many of those who rant against foreign workers are those who have been unemployed a long time, when the fact is, if you really want to work in the U.K. you can.

Gypsies are an European problem now, not just Eastern European. They are nomads in the first place. That they come from former Yugoslavia, Romania, the Czech Republic does not matter. Gypsies that live in large communities hardly know the language of the country they are registered as citizens, and they will soon forget it for good, once they move westwards. The ones who still think that governments can put barriers on gypsies should stop day dreaming. Gypsies are stateless to their bones and in this respect the first true European citizens (quite ironic, isn't it?)

Firstly the Romanians sent a load of there gypsy women to the UK a few years ago clutching babies dressed in rags begging in the City of London and following shouting and ranting at anyone who did not give them money, they travelled on the tube as well till everyone got so fed up with this that the police rounded them up and sent them back home, secondly these two countries cause more crime between them then all the other EU pact countries put together. That's your answer they are not wanted here in the UK we have enough problems as it is.

He is against it because Britain does not have the infrastructure to cope with another few hundred thousand people arriving within weeks of each other.
When we allowed Polish workers to come here we had 600,000 arrive. Because of that we have too few houses and medical facilities to support the population. Road and transport infrastructure is at breaking point and cannot cope with hundreds of thousands more people trying to use them.
The fact is money that has been paid in taxes by people already in this country would have to be diverted from its planned use to pay for infrastruture needed to be able to support Bulgarians and Romanians wanting to come and work here. We are a country, not a charity. So that is what only professional people with skills we are short of can be accommodated.
Sorry if you do not like it, but we have to live with the consequences of it. So why should our standard of living be sacrificed because outsiders want to come here?

Dear Mr or Miss "I obviously have a really good job, am financially secure and know nothign about poverty in Britain today".
There are NOT ENOUGH jobs to go round. There are British graduates working in MaccdyD's because of this!
There are skilled people being pushed out of work because their skills entitle them to £10 an hour and the average Pole will work for £4 an hour.
There are families losing their homes and being left homeless because there are not enough council and social housing places.
The UK's crime rate is going to soar if these people are allowed in.
How the hell do you think letting shitloads of Romanians and Bulgarians in will help? It will make things WORSE!
The UK is practically on its needs and "rights" or not these people are NOT welcome here!
But its always those who are well off who support these people because they are too up their own backside to see how life is for their fellow British citizens.
You try minimum wage living for a while.

If we start letting the Romanians and the Bugarians into this country, John Reid will need to double the present Police force of this country. When will this government of this country realise the good people of Britain don't want any more foreigners coming here, enough is enough.

Because they will just come into the country and not bother finding work, and just live off the tax payers money, and the more that come in, that will mean Tax increase, and what p*ss' me off the most is that they'll come in and get a house straight, and not pay a penny for it.
It's like the Government is helping the work shy, lazy c*nts and punishing the honest hard working of this country.
